Self help; not as impressed as the advertising (including Ophra) led me to believe I would be.
Timely book May 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Even though the subject matter was covered before, this book has its own place and has a timely appearance. The book deals with ego and with what happens when we let ego take over our bodies. Nothing new, right? Well, sort of. After reading this book I began to understand better why some people end up where they are (especially career-wise and personally). I can see how uncontrolled ego can turn a person into an amazing jackass. But, what the book helped me to understand better is why living in "now" is so important, and why suppressing the ego-driven behavior leads to a healthier you. This is the key: whatever we do, our reactions, our choices in life, how we deal with other people, if it is ego-driven, nothing good will come out of it. Of course, there are times when you have to stand up for yourself and your family because we are surrounded with egotistical personalities and they do nothing but aggravate you. But you can win, if you fight smartly.
This book spelled it all out and that's why I think it is important for all of us not just read it, but follow it.
Well Being Regardless of the Circumstances! May 15, 2008 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
One of the passages in this book that really resonated for me was about how it is possible to keep one's state of well being regardless of whether the present circumstances are good or bad. In other words, it is not necessary to lose your well being if life shows up as challenging or upsetting in some way. It is equally not necessary to lose your well being if things show up the way you prefer. He explains that it is an old Zen idea that a person can maintain well being regardless of circumstances - and that your preferences don't need to determine how you 'feel' about a situation. I also highly recommend authors Ariel and Shya Kane. Their books Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment and How To Create a Magical Relationship are exceptional. They are highly readable and offer a fantastic approach to ideas like living in the moment and maintaining well being in your everyday life. Check them out! I have the most magical relationship because of them - the ideas they present are so right on, and so unexpected.
