Amazon.com Ekhart Tolle's message is simple: living in the now is the truest path to happiness and enlightenment. And while this message may not seem stunningly original or fresh, Tolle's clear writing, supportive voice, and enthusiasm make this an excellent manual for anyone who's ever wondered what exactly "living in the now" means. Foremost, Tolle is a world-class teacher, able to explain complicated concepts in concrete language. More importantly, within a chapter of reading this book, readers are already holding the world in a different container--more conscious of how thoughts and emotions get in the way of their ability to live in genuine peace and happiness. Tolle packs a lot of information and inspirational ideas into The Power of Now. (Topics include the source of Chi, enlightened relationships, creative use of the mind, impermanence, and the cycle of life.) Thankfully, he's added markers that symbolize "break time." This is when readers should close the book and mull over what they just read. As a result, The Power of Now reads like the highly acclaimed A Course in Miracles--a spiritual guidebook that has the potential to inspire just as many study groups and change just as many lives for the better. --Gail Hudson
Product Description
Eckhart Tolle is emerging as one of today's most inspiring teachers. In The Power of Now, already a word-of-mouth bestseller in Canada, the author describes his transition from despair to self-realization soon after his 29th birthday. Tolle took another ten years to understand this transformation, during which time he evolved a philosophy that has parallels in Buddhism, relaxation techniques, and meditation theory but is also eminently practical. In The Power of Now he shows readers how to recognize themselves as the creators of their own pain, and how to have a pain-free existence by living fully in the present. Accessing the deepest self, the true self, can be learned, he says, by freeing ourselves from the conflicting, unreasonable demands of the mind and living present, fully, and intensely, in the Now.

A life changing read! May 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought The Power of Now after reading A New Earth. I found that it reinforces all the Concepts I learned in A New Earth. Together, these books have had a profound impact on my own personal spiritual journey. Each day, I wake up ready to become more conscious of the present moment. The past cannot be changed and the future is in the present moment. How liberating it is to experience each moment to the fullest without regrets over the past or fear of the future. I recommend any books by Eckhart Tolle.

I listened to this book on CD. At first I thought it was pretty good stuff until a woman basically asked Tolle, "How do I use your teachings when I have overwhelming problems like debt, a son on drugs, going through a divorce, etc." Tolle answered with in my opinion a nonanswer. I don't remember the exact words nor do I wish to but he basically said well I understand how difficult it is but just think in the now and everything will be okay. I think if you are into this stuff then you should read the stuff by J. Krishnamurti or even Dr. Wayne Dyer.
Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now April 28, 2008 The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment
To my mind Eckhart Tolle has managed to make sense where no sense previously resided. Finding and living in the "now" is in truth a simple and yet profound way of "being".
not as great as I thought April 27, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was very excited to get this book due to all the great reviews, but honestly I have had a hard time getting into it. I don't think I am past page 30.

I am a Christian by faith and although Mr. Tolle does not promote any one religion, his book has opened up or explained so much of the Bible verses that I had struggled to understand. I love how clear his book has made a difference in my studying and my everyday life. I understand now and practice how to be in the "Now", and it's amazing the peace and the clarity that I get realizing that I don't have to do anything but allow God to be. Matt. 6:33 and other scripture have become so profound and clear to me. Thank you.
