Amazon.com Ekhart Tolle's message is simple: living in the now is the truest path to happiness and enlightenment. And while this message may not seem stunningly original or fresh, Tolle's clear writing, supportive voice, and enthusiasm make this an excellent manual for anyone who's ever wondered what exactly "living in the now" means. Foremost, Tolle is a world-class teacher, able to explain complicated concepts in concrete language. More importantly, within a chapter of reading this book, readers are already holding the world in a different container--more conscious of how thoughts and emotions get in the way of their ability to live in genuine peace and happiness. Tolle packs a lot of information and inspirational ideas into The Power of Now. (Topics include the source of Chi, enlightened relationships, creative use of the mind, impermanence, and the cycle of life.) Thankfully, he's added markers that symbolize "break time." This is when readers should close the book and mull over what they just read. As a result, The Power of Now reads like the highly acclaimed A Course in Miracles--a spiritual guidebook that has the potential to inspire just as many study groups and change just as many lives for the better. --Gail Hudson
Product Description
It's no wonder that The Power of Now has sold over 2 million copies worldwide and has been translated into over 30 foreign languages. Much more than simple principles and platitudes, the book takes readers on an inspiring spiritual journey to find their true and deepest self and reach the ultimate in personal growth and spirituality: the discovery of truth and light. In the first chapter, Tolle introduces readers to enlightenment and its natural enemy, the mind. He awakens readers to their role as a creator of pain and shows them how to have a pain-free identity by living fully in the present. The journey is thrilling, and along the way, the author shows how to connect to the indestructible essence of our Being, "the eternal, ever-present One Life beyond the myriad forms of life that are subject to birth and death." Featuring a new preface by the author, this paperback shows that only after regaining awareness of Being, liberated from Mind and intensely in the Now, is there Enlightenment.
Download Description Eckhart Tolle is emerging as one of today's most inspiring teachers. In The Power of Now, already a word-of-mouth bestseller in Canada, the author describes his transition from despair to self-realization soon after his 29th birthday. Tolle took another ten years to understand this transformation, during which time he evolved a philosophy that has parallels in Buddhism, relaxation techniques, and meditation theory but is also eminently practical. In The Power of Now he shows readers how to recognize themselves as the creators of their own pain, and how to have a pain-free existence by living fully in the present. Accessing the deepest self, the true self, can be learned, he says, by freeing ourselves from the conflicting, unreasonable demands of the mind and living present, fully, and intensely, in the Now.

Power of Now May 8, 2008 This book really made me think. It also offered simple ways of living in the moment and thus avoiding missing out on the sweetness of life.
Tolle Now May 8, 2008 One of the most helpful books I have ever read. It gives a psychological language for understanding Christianity.
If you're looking for peace of mind, read this book May 6, 2008 The author translates mysticism into understandable language and concepts. He speaks to the man or woman on the street rather than from his ivory tower of vagueness and superiority. He makes happiness accessible and attainable for the average person. Extremely interesting is that all of us have already experienced enlightenment in small doses throughout our lives, but we never recognized this feeling for what it is. Many comments in the book are surprising and amusing, making it a compelling read. The book also serves a self-help guide for working through difficult situations that are presented in a way that the reader can easily relate and recognize his/her own personal experiences. I found this most helpful. On the down side, some of the concepts are hard to grasp, even though they are explained in simple terms, but this is not the fault of the author. It takes time to absorb, comprehend and come to terms with some of the things he writes. Also, there is a lot of repetition in the book (plus, many of the ideas in this book are repeated in "A New Earth"), but repetition is fine with me since many important points need to be hammered into our minds and delivered in different ways to reach different readers. This is a book that I will be revisiting for a long time. I have read numerous books of this type and find this one to be refreshing and more realistic than others in this genre.
A life changing read! May 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought The Power of Now after reading A New Earth. I found that it reinforces all the Concepts I learned in A New Earth. Together, these books have had a profound impact on my own personal spiritual journey. Each day, I wake up ready to become more conscious of the present moment. The past cannot be changed and the future is in the present moment. How liberating it is to experience each moment to the fullest without regrets over the past or fear of the future. I recommend any books by Eckhart Tolle.

I listened to this book on CD. At first I thought it was pretty good stuff until a woman basically asked Tolle, "How do I use your teachings when I have overwhelming problems like debt, a son on drugs, going through a divorce, etc." Tolle answered with in my opinion a nonanswer. I don't remember the exact words nor do I wish to but he basically said well I understand how difficult it is but just think in the now and everything will be okay. I think if you are into this stuff then you should read the stuff by J. Krishnamurti or even Dr. Wayne Dyer.
