Amazon.com Ekhart Tolle's message is simple: living in the now is the truest path to happiness and enlightenment. And while this message may not seem stunningly original or fresh, Tolle's clear writing, supportive voice, and enthusiasm make this an excellent manual for anyone who's ever wondered what exactly "living in the now" means. Foremost, Tolle is a world-class teacher, able to explain complicated concepts in concrete language. More importantly, within a chapter of reading this book, readers are already holding the world in a different container--more conscious of how thoughts and emotions get in the way of their ability to live in genuine peace and happiness. Tolle packs a lot of information and inspirational ideas into The Power of Now. (Topics include the source of Chi, enlightened relationships, creative use of the mind, impermanence, and the cycle of life.) Thankfully, he's added markers that symbolize "break time." This is when readers should close the book and mull over what they just read. As a result, The Power of Now reads like the highly acclaimed A Course in Miracles--a spiritual guidebook that has the potential to inspire just as many study groups and change just as many lives for the better. --Gail Hudson
Product Description
Eckhart Tolle is emerging as one of today's most inspiring teachers. In The Power of Now, already a word-of-mouth bestseller in Canada, the author describes his transition from despair to self-realization soon after his 29th birthday. Tolle took another ten years to understand this transformation, during which time he evolved a philosophy that has parallels in Buddhism, relaxation techniques, and meditation theory but is also eminently practical. In The Power of Now he shows readers how to recognize themselves as the creators of their own pain, and how to have a pain-free existence by living fully in the present. Accessing the deepest self, the true self, can be learned, he says, by freeing ourselves from the conflicting, unreasonable demands of the mind and living present, fully, and intensely, in the Now.

Be In The Know NOW :) May 10, 2008 Are you looking for instant enlightenment? Or a quick way to awaken your spiritual life? How about a new method like spinning on your head while saying the mantra "Hubba, Hubba?"
Well you won't find any of those weird short-cuts in this book. You might find them in an unsually beautiful spiritual book Nexus: A Neo Novel about people at a spiritual retreat reminiscent of Findhorn that I just read.
What "The Power of Now" does offer is stirring, evocative writing that is a call to spiritual growth through meditative awareness of the present moment.
Tolle rightfully contends that our difficulties start when our mind strays from the NOW and grazes in the guilty pleasures of the past or the projected fantasies of the future. The past is gone and the future is yet to be created. By focusing on the present can we effectively create new dimensions in our life and shape our future destiny.
This is a must book for anyone interested in spiritual thought with a distinctly Buddhist feel and universal in its appeal.

Don't buy if you have A New Earth May 9, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
There is not much different in the two books. If you have already read A New Earth, don't wate your money on this because there is not much difference in the two books.
Eckhart Tolle Fantastic May 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The information that this book provides is invaluable. Being able to grasp Tolle's concepts and awaken one's consciousness in the midst of the "madness" that exists in our world today is invaluable. Would suggest that anyone who is making the trek and attempting to WAKE UP...should be buying this book!
