Product Description In The Rest of Her Life, Laura Moriarty delivers a luminous, compassionate, and provocative look at how mothers and daughters with the best intentions can be blind to the harm they do to one another.Leigh is the mother of high-achieving, popular high school senior Kara. Their relationship is already strained for reasons Leigh does not fully understand when, in a moment of carelessness, Kara makes a mistake that ends in tragedy -- the effects of which not only divide Leigh's family, but polarize the entire community. We see the story from Leigh's perspective, as she grapples with the hard reality of what her daughter has done and the devastating consequences her actions have on the family of another teenage girl in town, all while struggling to protect Kara in the face of rising public outcry.Like the best works of Jane Hamilton, Jodi Picoult, and Alice Sebold, Laura Moriarty's The Rest of Her Life is a novel of complex moral dilemma, filled with nuanced characters and a page-turning plot that makes readers ask themselves, "What would I do?"

eh July 14, 2008 Other reviews misled me as to what this story would be about. Its not that great. Entertaining but I gained nothing.
Read it in one night July 9, 2008 This book draws you in...amazing story about a family with two teenagers, and the ramifications of one small mistake. (Small but big). I couldn't put the book down, I needed to continue reading to see how things turned out. The story reminds me a bit of Breaking Her Fall
The Rest of Who's Life?!? April 26, 2008 I came across this book after my dear friend Kristin had been killed after a car accident where a young teenage boy ran a red light after he had been drinking. At any rate, I decided to read this book thinking that it would help me, but it didn't. The book had a great plot, but it was under-developed. The main character whined so much so that the reader forgot about her daughter and the victim of her daughter's accident. This book really should have been a good read, but it wasn't. At times I found myself skipping through chapters. The ending was very uneventful. By the time I finished the book I wished that I'd never started it in the first place. I wasted $20 and two days!
So Boring....... March 16, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Oh my heavens...what a snoozefest. I bought this book at a yard sale and the lady selling it said it was a good book (I think she just wanted my 50 cents). After a strong start this book trails off into endless blah, blah, blah. The characters were unrelatable. I didn't like the mother at all, the daughter kind of bugged me, and the husband made me a little sick, too. Even the physical descriptions of them were unappealing. The only character I liked was the weird son who played music at the old folks home. He was halfway interesting. There really is no plot to speak of, just a lot of feelings and flashbacks. It never seemed to end. The author of this book tried way too hard to write an insightful piece. It was an insightful piece of something. Not my cup of tea at all. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because I'm ashamed to admit that I spent a week that I'll never get back reading a 1 star book. ZZZZzzzzzzz!
Very much liking this author. March 14, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Excellent book. Very introspective, and I like how the author played out the ending.
