Paradise Found April 15, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
HIGH PROFILE is the sixth in the series of Jesse Stone mystery novels by Robert B. Parker. Jesse is the chief of police in the small town of Paradise, MA. A celebrity talk-show host is found shot and hung in his jurisdiction. Jesse, along with his crack team, must find the killer while sifting through confusing clues and suspects. He must also come to grips with his alcoholism, love for his ex-wife Jenn, and budding relationship with new girlfriend Sunny.
Fans of Jesse Stone have probably seen the made-for-TV movies starring Tom Selleck as Stone. He nails the character with his small town laid-back manner with underlying big city tension. A few DVDs are available, including Jesse Stone - Death In Paradise and Stone Cold. The seventh novel in the series is Stranger in Paradise (Jesse Stone Novels).

Stronger entry in Parker's Stone series April 14, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Robert Parker is one of those guys who writes so fast that he's got to have several series of books in order to keep from tiring out his main character. After all, his mainstay, Spenser, is the same age as Parker. Back 10 or 15 books ago, Spenser used to mention that he was a Korean War veteran. Most of those guys are AARP members, wonderful heroes and worthwhile people, but not that scary any more the way the main character in one of Parker's books should be. So he created a second and third character. One's a younger female version of Spenser named Sunny Randall. The other is younger too, a homicide detective from LA who drank himself out of that job and wound up working as the police chief in Paradise Massachusetts. Both of the characters mentioned here appear in this latest book, though Stone's the main character.
When a nationally syndicated conservative talk-show host winds up dead in Paradise, shot three times in the chest and then hung from a tree, Stone has a lot of things to deal with. When the guy's assistant, a comely female, is found dead in a dumpster behind Paradise's diner, things really become a mess. The media descends on the town, the governor shows up to make sure the investigation is going in a direction he likes, and to make things worse, Stone's ex-wife (with whom he's still in love) announces she's been raped, and demands protection. Stone summons Sunny Randall (with whom he had a romance in Blue Screen last year) to protect the ex while he investigates the killings.
I enjoyed this book more than most of the Parker novels I've read recently. The plot actually had a twist or two, and while the ending was predictable, it's still a good book. I would recommend this book to almost anyone, it's a good story.
High Profile April 6, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
"High Profile" is the 6th Jesse Stone novel by Robert B. Parker who is best known for the Spenser series. Jesse is the police chief of Paradise, Massachusetts. Walton Weeks, a national talk show host, is found dead in Paradise hanging from a tree. He had been shot in the chest. Shortly after finding Weeks the body of his assistant, Carey Langley is found behind a dumpster. She had also been shot in the chest. Carey was pregnant with Weeks' baby. Jesse must find out who and why these 2 people were murdered. Weeks had a wife and 2 ex-wives. Did one of them kill Weeks and his lover? Did someone who disagreed with his controversial political positions want to kill him? Jesse uncovers a lot of secrets on his way to solving tha case. In a subplot, Jesse's ex Jenn claims to have been raped and stalked. Jesse hires Sunny Randall (from one of Parker's other series) to be Jenn's bodyguard. Jesse and Jenn try to work out their problems. This novel was not as good as most of these novels have been but if you are a long time fan it is worth your time.
