Product Description
Jack Hilliard has the perfect life. A family man with two young sons and a supportive wife that he has loved since the day they met, he’s also on the verge of being elected District Attorney of St. Louis. As secure at home as he is in the courtroom, he has plenty to fight for and nothing to hide.
But everything in Jack’s life is not nearly as perfect as it seems, as he learns when he finally admits to being attracted to one of his old friends and colleagues, Jenny Dodson. Jack tries hard to put his feelings for her aside, but his attraction develops into an obsession that he can’t control. What should have been a terrible mistake never to be repeated turns into even more when Jenny is accused of the murder of one of her clients, and Jack is her only alibi. Now Jack’s in the painful and precarious position of being trapped between saving a friend and protecting his family.
Julie Compton’s searing debut novel, Tell No Lies, is as much a whodunit as it is about why---why does Jack Hilliard do what he does, even when it seems he can’t win, why does Jenny Dodson let him, and why is human nature as much about love and conviction as it is about trust and betrayal?

Exciting and Literate Thriller August 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This well-written legal thriller has unusually interesting, complex characters who face relationship challenges and fascinating ethical and legal dilemmas. It entertains while at the same time makes a reader think. I look forward to more great reads by author Julie Compton.
Wow, a powerful and suspenseful book July 31, 2008 I normally go for books with HEA endings as I like to escape the everyday ho-hums of life. Whether it be a romance or a mystery/romance, most of the books I read have that HEA ending. This is not the case with Tell No Lies.
The legal aspect and the suspenseful plot of the book was wonderfully written. The courtroom drama was very realistic and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The main character, Jack Hilliard, has it all, a great job, a beautiful wife and two great sons. He is admired by everyone for his good nature, his morals and his strong work ethics. Jack finds himself spinning out of control when he decides to run for DA and suddenly everything he thought he was has changed. Jack's attraction to his long time attorney friend Jenny comes to the surface during his campaign (she is on his campaign staff) - she becomes something he just cannot resist. Eventually, he must face the consequences for his lack of willpower.
As a reader,I found myself hating Jack and sympathizing with Jack's wife Claire. Throughout the book, you are reading about Jack's thought process, so you get inside his head. I was disgusted with him while reading some of the things he said to Jenny on that night they shared. I also felt that when Claire eventually found out, her reaction to his indiscretion was spot on. I believe it's similar to how I would react as well if put in the same position. Even after some time had passed, the author did not allow Claire to just gloss over everything and give the reader the HEA ending so many other authors do. Everything is NOT tied up a pretty little bow. In fact, I hope the author might write a sequel because the ending definitely left me wondering what might happen next.... (and not just with Claire & Jack).
A Good Solid Read July 28, 2008 Julie Compton begins her writing career in fine style with a fast moving, quick read. What begins as an innocent kiss, takes a turn with deep reaching consequences. Without giving the story away, I'll say that the story's protagonist, Jack, is in for a soul searching ride. Torn between two options -- both damaging and potentially devistating to his career and family -- he will let his conscience guide his actions. A good solid read with authentic courtroom action.
I just don't get it July 26, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I kept reading this book thinking there has got to be something more because of the first raving reviews that I had read. I just don't understand how it could have received one 5 star rating. This book was so ho hum, but I plowed through waiting to find this "page turner" as described. I only found a boring book with so many misspelled words, I was left scratching my head, how it made it through editing. .
A great ride! June 25, 2008 What more in life coud Jack possibly need? He's got a beautiful wife, two great sons and is an excellent ADA. Now he's been approached to run for the District Attorney position and after some resistance decides to go for it. All the while fighting his feels for his good friend Jenny. One night both Jack and Jenny make a horrible mistake. One that will eventually come back to haunt both of them. When Jenny is arrested for a crime and can not provide an alibi, Jack must risk losing it all by saying he spent the night in question with her. Jacks wife tosses him out - Jenny disappears and he's left wondering how he could have let his life take such a downward turn. A great legal thriller filled with sex, lies and betrayal that isn't so much about "who" but as "why". A fast paced read with a twist at the end that no one will see coming.
