Product Description
Matt is a typical teenage boy in rural Michigan. While on his annual family hunting trip he encounters a strange, almost mystical pack of coyotes that he cannot seem to escape. The Enigma folllows Matt's dilemma to save his girlfriend Ellie from a force more powerful than either of them can comprehend. Matt and Ellie are only teenagers but feel they would do anything for one another. It is easy for one to say they would put themselves on the line for another person, but when the time comes and the beasts have them backed into a corner, how far are they willing to go? Does love conquer all? Love has driven men to war, driven men mad, and has made ordinary men do extraordinary things. The Enigma is a story about the power of love.

2 out of 5 stars I was hoping for a better read based on the reviews   September 29, 2008
I bought this book based on the reviews. I've got to wonder...are these 'friends' posting reviews? Sorry - have to be honest here. This is Mike Wall's first book I read, sadly, I think it will be the last. There is a story with potential, but only if you could survive the writing style of the author. There are portions of the book that are very well written. The beginning, for example, while hunting, the descriptions are vivid and thorough. This helps the reader create the vision of the setting - which draws in the reader - but that's where it ends. The characters are poorly developed. The story line, not really suspenseful until the end after Matt decides what he feels he needs to do. As far as this being a love story, well, (how should I put this nicely) there are certain 'words' you shouldn't use when you are trying to sell a story as 'love' - especially a teen love. Wall could have spent a little more time developing the love story portion of the novel to draw the reader into understanding Matt & Ellie. Rather, Ellie seems like the girl who loves Matt, and he seems like the guy who wants to get into her pants. Literally, from one sentence to the next, Matt realizes he must be in love. Seriously. Teen love is supposed to be this - I can't live without him/her, not...yeah - I like her, no wait, I must love her, yeah, that's it. Another thing, Matt is described as an honor student - yeah, ok, he's smart, but to completely decipher the energy code of the enigma to know exactly what he needs to do? Seriously. Also, the enigma is the main part of the story so it could have been built up a little more. Maybe at a camp fire during the initial hunting scene? That would have established the mystery of the enigma early on in the story and each event thereafter would have built onto that, adding a little more mystery. There is potential in Wall, and it is evident in some areas, but severely weak in others. Finally, there is a lot of repetition. 'And that made him/her happy.' I can't tell you how many times that appears in the story. Overall, it was a painful read, it took me way too long to read this story. I can get through a 350 pp book in less than three days. This one '200 pp' took me a little over a week to finish.

5 out of 5 stars Great book   May 2, 2008
Easy read and the story moves fast. It is one of those books that grabs you from the beginning and keeps a hold of you. A must buy for fiction lovers.

4 out of 5 stars Hard to put down......   April 7, 2008
This book is an easy read and hard to put down. Mike keeps you wondering what is going to come next. To me it was a surprise ending! I am looking forward to his next book.

5 out of 5 stars For the inner minds eye   February 19, 2008
After reading Mr. Walls first book "The Gatherers" I knew I was lucky to find such a refreshing writer. So many books have a hard time catching your attention enough to really get you involved with the characters.
I was involved right from the start. Great read for anyone especially if you have a teenager in your household.

This book was a real thinker. It made me wonder what I would do if this had happened to me. I was able to emotionally connect with the characters in the enigma. Love is a very powerful unseen object and this book proved it all. It was a very admirable book and I recommend this book to anyone who as ever experienced the feelings of true love. I have also read 'The Gatherers' and because I have it made this book even more powerful to me. I can't wait to see what else Mike Wall come out with next! Great job on the book!
