Product Description
The astonishing, uplifting story of a real-life Indiana Jones and his humanitarian campaign to use education to combat terrorism in the Talibans backyard

Anyone who despairs of the individuals power to change lives has to read the story of Greg Mortenson, a homeless mountaineer who, following a 1993 climb of Pakistans treacherous K2, was inspired by a chance encounter with impoverished mountain villagers and promised to build them a school. Over the next decade he built fifty-five schoolsespecially for girlsthat offer a balanced education in one of the most isolated and dangerous regions on earth. As it chronicles Mortensons quest, which has brought him into conflict with both enraged Islamists and uncomprehending Americans, Three Cups of Tea combines adventure with a celebration of the humanitarian spirit.

5 out of 5 stars Three Cups of Tea   May 20, 2008
This is a great book and should be read by every American. It is about an ordinary man accomplishing extraordinary things. It gives the average person (that knows little about the middle east, terrorism, muslims, etc.) great insight into this culture and more importantly how to fight terrorism and promote peace. Greg is an inspiration to all.

5 out of 5 stars A call to action, I hope we all learn   May 20, 2008

Can one man change the world, I would have to say yes. I thank Greg and David for bringing this story to our attention. Yes the efforts of Greg and his wife are beyond what most of can or will do, but with that said, we can get behind this work through our votes and through our donations. We have a vehicle to help change the world and we must take this call to action and act. Which candidate in this upcoming election is willing and able to move forward supporting this initiative? Know who will pursue this vision and vote to make a difference. And even in these tight times, make a decision to donate to this effort. We have so much to gain through action and so much to lose through inaction. And for those annoyed by David's writing style, get over it and get behind the work being done. Thank you David for bringing this extraordinary story to us. Greg has done more on almost nothing to heal this world than the US government has done with a trillion dollars over the last decade. That has got to tell you something. Greg's insights, values, ethics, and vision inspire us and lead us forward. Read this book. Study this book. Then act. Just imagine what we can all do acting together to change this world one little girl at a time with one school at a time.

Thank you Greg and David for bringing this story to us. My heart goes out to all of the children whose lives you are transforming. Please let them know that there are millions of us here in the US that love them and will do what we can to help through our votes, through our time, and through our donations. I am totally behind you and at your service. I am inspired. Thank you with all of my heart.

Your friend, John

5 out of 5 stars Very timely reading   May 19, 2008

This is an excellent read and very timely with the world situation. I wasn't sure I wanted to read it but my book club picked it and I am so glad they did. It was so interesting and written so well. I can't imagine doing what he did as most of us are so far removed from that kind of life. The book is very inspiring and a lesson to us all.

5 out of 5 stars Well worth the time to read; a must for high school reading lists   May 19, 2008

Full of adventure, full of heart. Too many stories about Afghanistan and Pakistan are depressing and the job of helping the people there impossible. Here is a "happy" story of one man's successes at doing just that. Clearly not an "ugly American" Greg is an example of what we should be doing to help the world over.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Story - We can change the world, one school at a time   May 19, 2008

What an amazing story, a lesser person would have given up long ago on the important mission that Greg Mortenson has achieved! It makes me want to make a difference too! I also give tremendous commendation for the selflessness of Tara, his wife. What an angel to have understood Greg's mission and put her family 2nd to that mission, kudos to you and the children, for your husband has inspired millions! I highly recommend this book - it should be required reading in schools and businesses in America.
