Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This book is a five-year ethnographic study of the lesbian culture built at the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival. The study explores the construction of an Amazon consciousness and its manifestation in symbol, myth, and ritual performance at the Festival. It also explores the ways womyn build homes, families, and sacred traditions during the Festival.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Correction to editorial review   July 6, 2008
This book is not a study of "lesbian" culture as is stated in the editorial review. Directly from the book: "Every year in August, thousands of womyn from around the world make a journey that takes them from the liminal world of patriarchal violence and oppression to the safety of a Land where they build an Amazon culture of homes, families, and sacred traditions. This culture binds these womyn to each other and to the 650 acres in Michigan they call their homeland. This book is the culmination of a five-year ethnographic study of the cultural community womyn build at the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival. ..." To imply that this book focuses specifically on the lesbian community is inaccurate.
