great aid for Praxis prep but watch out for that essay! March 29, 2008 I just took (and passed) the Praxis I exam a couple of weeks ago. I used this book as a refresher course; studied it a few days prior to the test. It helped a lot to familiarize me with the type and format of questions asked. I do wish I'd taken the essay part more seriously--you really need to use the sample essay as a cookie-cutter guide. Although my college essays rate very highly, I only got a 6 out of 12 on the Praxis essay. It is not content or style they're looking for, but form, form, form. Don't get fancy, don't try anything subtle or clever; simply dust off that tired old "5 paragraph, topic sentence" essay that was drilled into your brain during high school and you should do fine. I repeat--do not write as though you are writing an analysis paper for a college lit prof; write as though you are writing to please your 10th grade English teacher.
I was able to take the computer-based test, which I would recommend if it is possible in your area. I was able to see my scores (except for the writing part) immediately after I took the test.
Very helpful!! November 1, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book helped me focus my study and gave lots of practice questions. I still needed to look up problem areas on the internet; however the review explanations were decent. I recommend this as a companion to the ETS books. These exercises are better and the explanations are more to the point.
A Great Study Aid August 13, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I found this book to be a helpful review for the Praxis test. Personally, I needed a good math review (the last math class that I had taken was five years ago). Math is my weak point; so, I was pleasently surprised to score nearly perfect on my Praxis. This book is well worth its value and provides a good summary of what to expect on the Praxis - especially if you are on a time crunch!
need to take a Praxis? This is the book id get August 4, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I just took my praxis exams this morning, and if I didn't use this book, I would have been a little lost. It has everything you could think of is preparing for this test, and when you have completed all tests and toward finishing college and looking for a job, this book's last section shows how to pump up your resume and gives you tips when looking for a job.
If you are in the education major, Id recommend this book, it will take you far in your higher education and beyond.
Great Guide! June 13, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book helped me prepare for the CPPST version of the PRAXIS. I was using Exam Cram, but that review guide was too simple and easy...too good to be true. I am so glad I bought this one too. Barron's helped me prepare for my PRAXIS, especially the Writing section. I'm giving this Barron's 5 stars.
