Book Description Carl Weber--the New York Times bestselling author of The First Lady and So You Call Yourself a Man--represents with a straight-up novel about friendship and love, sex and betrayal, and how getting some on the side is never as simple as it seems... Meet Tammy, Egypt, Isis, Nikki, Coco, and Tiny--the bodacious women of the Big Girls Book Club. There's only one rule to being a member. You must be at least a size 14... BGBC president Tammy loves everything about her life--her two kids, her fierce friends, her BMW. She especially loves taking care of business for her husband, Tim, for whom she'd do anything. This year, she intends to top all his past birthdays by having a threesome with her best friend, Egypt. Now, if only Egypt will agree to grant them this very special favor... Isis's boyfriend, Tony, romances her every chance he gets--and he knows how to turn up the heat, which makes Isis willing to lay down and die for him. That is until a man from her past steps back into her life--with only one goal in mind: win back the woman he's never been able to forget. But not every BGBC member is lucky with men. Once upon a time, single mom Nikki would have made love to her man in the middle of Times Square for the entire country to see. Now that he's her ex, it takes everything she has not to kill him (or let her roommate, Tiny, do it for her), especially since he has a way of disappointing their son every chance he gets--and then making her look like the bad guy. And then there's hot-to-trot Coco Brown, who has a habit of messing around with married men. It doesn't bother her, as long as they don't try to deny it. But now that she's hooked up with a man who makes his living being every woman's fantasy, all she cares about is making sure he doesn't stray. As insatiable about books as they are about love--or lust--these friends are about to discover how tough it is to keep it real when they all have Something on the Side.

THIS BOOK IS JUST PLAIN HORRIBLE July 16, 2008 This book had a lot of promise in the early chapters, but after awhile the choices that the characters made were so ridiculous and absurd that this book just became a total mess by the end. The one thing that I will give the book credit for is that it is realistic. However, its the type of reality that belongs somewhere on a bottom-level cable show called "When People Do Dumb S&*%" and not in a 400 page book.
Probably the worst part about the book is that the characters became so ridiculous that I was soon (without any effort) able to figure out the big AH-HA moments in the book many chapters before I got there. Ridiculous and realistic gets the book to 2-stars, but the predictable part drops it to 1-star. A total waste of time.
The only redeeming thing is that I had no problem with Weber's writing style, so I'm sure that I'll try different books of his. However - this one really was bad - real bad.
Good juicy read!!!!! July 12, 2008 Well Carl you did it again, absolutely loved the story. I would love to see this as a movie some time real soon!!!!
Something on the Side July 5, 2008 Yes in this novel they all have something on the side! But is it worth keeping something on the side? You will have to be the judge of that decision. This book will have you from the beginning and you would not want to put it down. Keep up the good work Carl!
LOVED IT!!!! July 3, 2008 Carl Weber has yet to pen a novel that I didn't like....and in his latest tale, he continues to make his readers more than happy. Something On The Side is a story of 5 plus-sized friends who are also members of the BGBC--a book club where the one requirement is that you have to be at least a size 14 to become a member--and their relationship drama....and believe me, drama is putting it lightly.
Nikki has been involved in a relationship with another woman, Tiny, since escaping the abusive clutches of her son's father. She's in love with Tiny, or so she thinks; until Keith, a new employee, shows up at her job and the sparks fly. Nikki has accepted that fact that she is gay, and is happy with Tiny; but is Keith about to remind her of what she's been missing for the last few years?
Tammy has the perfect marriage. She has wonderful kids and a husband who adores her. But he's about to turn 40, and Tammy wants to prove to him that he has the best wife who wants him to fulfill all of his sexual fantasies....; and the only one left is that of a threesome. And so it goes down, but what Tammy does not count on is The Aftermath. Her jealousy and insecurity.....and the ramifications of those feelings. Could her desire to make her man happy be the very thing that destroys her marriage?
Isis has the perfect boyfriend in Tony, who wants nothing more than to be with her constantly. Isis wants the same, but is determined that Tony not "get the milk for free," a mistake that she made with ex-boyfriend Rashad. When Rashad shows up professing his love and apologizing for past mistakes, Isis must make a choice. But sometimes, things are not quite what they seem, and what might seem obvious is something different entirely......
Egypt is manless and getting antsy about it. But a taste of what she's been missing---courtesy of an invitation to her best friend's marital bed--sets her on a collision course towards destroying her relationships with the two women that she loves the most.....
Coco is every decent woman's worst nightmare. She is hot, confident, and has absolutely no respect for anyone else's romantic relationships...be it boyfriend or husband. Coco is all about the benjamins...anybody who's trying to get with her better be able to bring it, financially. Then she meets Mac...and the main thing he is bringing is the hotness. He is fine, fine, fine....and Coco may finally concede that sometimes matters of the heart are the most important. But a gift from a resentful cousin may threaten Coco's happy house of cards...and bring an end to the most important relationship she's had in a long time.
Impossible to put down, Carl Weber proves once again that he has mastered the art of relationship drama...whatever the gender. And just when you think that there is nothing unique anymore to bring to this genre....he does just that, and the twist and turns will keep you up until the wee hours of the morning.....an excellent read.

It is not Christian Fiction! June 30, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had read another book by Carl Weber that I would classify as Christian Fiction and I was very Pleased. How ever this book was so sexualy graphic that I wrapped it up in newspaper and gave it away( i kind of feel guilty for passing it on)!
Something on the Side should come with a warning label that reads -Warning: This book may invite lust deamons into your soul and may endanger you soul to hellfire.
