Product Description Brenna O'Brien doesn't believe in happy endings. Not since the love of her life, Pierce McGovern, left her years ago without a word. Now, she leads a quiet life surrounded by her four matchmaking sisters, running a historic movie theater and collecting old wartime letters. But she leaves the letters unopened, preferring to imagine their possibilities rather than risk being disappointed.
Then Pierce comes back to town, shattering Brenna's hard-earned peace-and forcing her to re-examine everything, and realize that if she doesn't come to terms with the life she let slip away, she may never have the courage to go after the life she wants.

Another lowcountry story with a frustrating and frustrated heroine. Overall I liked the storyline and the interwoven family values and sisters bonding. I would recommend.

I have read other Karen White books and enjoyed them. I could not even make it thru this one. It is so predictable and uses every southern cliche in the book. If you don't care if your are thoroughly engaged then get this one, otherwise go for something else.
What a story!! March 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I loved every second of this book; from the sisterly love to the scrapbooking to Aunt Dottie to the love letters to the theatre. The book reminded me of The Notebook, and I love LOVE LOVE these kinds of stories!!!!!!!!
Life After Loss June 27, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
A novel dealing with tragic loss, Learning to Breathe is a path to survival and triumphant life. Author, Karen White, shows the way out of tragedy and into the mainstream of feeling and being again. A perfect gift for one who has had a tragic loss, and a great gift to those who have not. Understnding those who suffer extreme tragedy, and supporting them, is not easy at all. This book gives a glimpse at both sides of the issue. You'll be glad you read it.

I am a big fan of Karen White. I enjoyed this book even more than her others, if that's possible. Keep these wonderful books coming, Karen.
