Product Description
For 33 years, The Insider's Guide to the Colleges has been the book most relied-upon by high school students looking for accurate and honest reports on colleges from their fellow students. Edited and written by student reporters at the Yale Daily News and featuring the unfiltered and invaluable commentary from students at over 320 colleges across the U.S. and Canada, the Insider's Guide blends concise statistical data and opinions to provide the most well-rounded profile of life on each campus. After all, college isn't just about the academics, athletics, and the social scene; telling information can also be gleaned from the food options, the quality of dorms, the composition of the student body, and even practical concerns like parking and transportation. The Insider's Guide gives parents and prospective students all the information they need to choose the school that's right for them.

5 out of 5 stars Insiders Guide to the colleges   June 24, 2008
This book gives extra information not included in the main guides. It has a lot of pros and cons and is very useful

5 out of 5 stars My BEST Books for College Students...   November 4, 2007

This certainly ranks up there. My other choices for 2007, hands down:

1) How To Ace Your Way Through College & Still Have a Life
2) The MLA Handbook
3) Fiske Guide to Colleges

4 out of 5 stars Guide to Colleges   July 29, 2007

One of the most important things you can do when evaluating a college is
to plan a visit with a specific checklist of items important to you.
A strength of the guide is that it lists many but not all of the major
colleges in each state. The authors advise to make an application
that stands out or apart from the others. In addition, you should be
prepared to state where you would like to go and the reasons for
a decision. It is not necessarily bad to say that you are undecided
on a major.

Geometry and Algebra 2 are tested formally on the SAT
examination. Key indicators are the average admission SAT score,
the graduation rate, the student/faculty ratio, tuition and the
percent of the attendees receiving some financial assistance via
grants, scholarships, student loans, work study etc. The acquisition
would be helpful for any student beginning to explore the various
collegiate programs available locally and outside the immediate
geographic area.

2 out of 5 stars Good for first time college search but...   July 12, 2007

It was a waste of time for me for the subsequent college search. I owned a previous edition of this book in 2003, and in the 2008 edition nothing has changed with the exception of average SAT scores and such. The actual written copy is identical to the 2003 version that I owned. They still refer to Villanova's undergrad business school as the College of Commerce and Finance where they changed the name of it to Villanova School of Business two years ago! Too many 'ok' schools are in the book and too many good schools are left out. But the laziness of the publishers to not get back out on the college campuses to write current reviews, instead of using reviews left over from five years ago, just makes this book a waste of money.
