Product Description This is a major new edition of the acclaimed Oxford-Duden German Dictionary, the result of a unique collaboration between two of the world's foremost dictionary publishers - Oxford University Press and the Dudenverlag. It has been completely updated to include the very latest vocabulary, with over 3,000 new words in each language, including blogger, destination wedding, and oxygen bar. Language is now studied in the context of its culture, so this new edition now includes cultural notes, providing interesting and helpful information on life in the German-speaking world. In addition, there are boxed notes offering help with language usage and construction, and a revised and updated centre section on correspondence. This includes sample letters, CVs, and emails, and new sections on text messaging and using the telephone, and has been reorganized to make the information more accessible. The design has been transformed by the use of colour and a new ultra-clear layout, making this dictionary easier than ever to use. It is an essential reference tool for all serious students of German at university level and beyond, and for those who need an authoritative and comprehensive guide to German.

Oxford Duden excellence September 2, 2008 I am fluent in English (native language) and German and decided I needed a good dictionary. I am a translator and English teacher, and I find this dictionary is the best one I've seen so far for general English. Not as complete as the Oxford dictionary by itself, but probably the most complete you can own, with excellent usage descriptions, grammar explanations, etc. It's also way cheaper in the U.S. than in Europe. Great buy!

Oxford-Duden German Dictionary: German-English / English-German January 2, 2008 German Dictionary: German-English / English-German is very helpful for my teenage son, he loves it! It's easy to read, perfect while learning the german language in school.
Trendy format spoils scholarship. November 3, 2007 3 out of 14 found this review helpful
In my mind, the words "scholarship" and "color print" don't mix. For centuries scholars have found their way through page after page of black and white (perhaps dark brown and light brown from time to time), and it seems odd that suddenly we have happened upon a better way - black and BLUE and white.
That's cool for a travel dictionary you're trying to read in a taxi, or when pointing out some turn-of-phrase to a fellow tourist. It's flashy and stylish. And as long as you don't have to look at it for more than, say, twenty seconds at a time, I suppose it would do.
But to me the name "Oxford" means "if you're serious, this is for you." The name "Duden" is likewise highly esteemed.
So why is a dictionary made for the studious person being marketed to the tourist? I'm sure the scholarship is excellent, but I really wish it were in black and white. If there were a comparable edition in the traditional format I would buy it right away.
disappointed/ don't like blue words : harder to read than the black. Paper quality poor October 17, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
poor quality paper gives tha feel that the pages will easily tear and the dictionary is not built to last. The words are highlighted in blue rather than the usual darker black and this makes it more difficult to sort them out. The book seems to be more designed for its prettiness than for its functionality. word spacing could be better.
