Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Coleman Young was hilarious, an American original!   May 25, 2008
I smiled all the way through this book and laughed out loud a dozen times. I had no idea what an irreverent and hilarious wit Detroit Mayor Coleman Young was. Fortunately for us, he was unrestrained by any concerns about political correctness. This is a thin little book but it's a hoot and would be a bargain at twice the price!

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Collection of Colorful Quotes   February 8, 2008
This book will have anyone, with a sense of humor(or any other kind of"sense"),doubling over in laughter!! I'd already owned this book for years, before a swindling relative"relieved"me of it...So I was delighted that Amazon, had this book for sale!! Mayor Coleman Young, was an intelligent as well as entertaining politician, who defeated the odds, and became the first black mayor,of a major U.S. city!!His unique perspectives on life are perfectly reflected,in this collection of his outrageously honest quotes...In order to really appreciate, this controversal and candid man(And what he's been through, and WHY,he thinks how he thinks, and says the things he says)you've got to first read his autobiography, aptly titled:"Hardstuff:The Autobiography of Mayor Coleman Young"which is available(for a bargain price)right here on Amazon..My two favorite quotes from"Quotations"are when being accused of talking about racism too much,Coleman astutely replied:"When I see racism,I talk about it." "I've done that ALL,my life."I HOPE to STOP,talking about it." "Do you know,WHEN,that will happen?!?" "When I don't SEE any more racism."and when asked about his putting blacks in key positions in City Hall,he responds:"That means more at the TOP for blacks."(because)"There aint no shortage of blacks out there behind them garbage trucks!" Buy the book to hear his HILLARIOUS(yet true)response to an elderly Japanese Interpreter(on a visit to Japan)who informed him that there were many Japanese words, that have differing meanings, depending upon the tone in which they are spoken. His(crazy)response, when asked to follow a Japanese host, who had donned a kimono, and performed a 400 year-old warrior dance, with a spear and fan, will have you in TEARS!!!His logical(and TOTALLY true)response to being accused of being paranoid,is NOT to be missed!! You also MUST,read his PROFOUND view, against accusations that Afirmative Action is simply"reverse discrimination." His totally logical and intelligent response, when asked if Detroits'crime problem, was directly related to its' large black population, caused me to(audibly)say"AMEN" His(fact-backed)quote about blacks(violently)confronting whites,in order to achieve equal rights, should be REQUIRED reading for all ultra-militant blacks!! Sound Advice:ORDER THIS BOOK TODAY!! YOU'LL THANK YOURSELF!! Because, you have NO IDEA,how HARD it was for me,to just pick TWO"favorite"quotes, out of the ENDLESS,remarkable "sound-bites"in this WONDERFUL book!!!
