Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
An invaluable resource for instrument flight instructors, pilots, and students.

The Federal Aviation Administration's Instrument Flying Handbook provides pilots, student pilots, aviation instructors, and controllers with the knowledge and skills required to operate in instrument meteorological conditions.

Illustrated with full-color graphics and photographs, topics covered include basic atmospheric science, the air traffic control system, spatial disorientation and optical illusions, flight support systems, and emergency responses. The book's two appendixes contain information on clearance shorthand and an instrument training lesson guide. Readers will also find a handy glossary and index. Since many questions on FAA exams are taken directly from the information presented in this text, the Instrument Flying Handbook is a great study guide for potential pilots looking for certification, and a perfect gift for any aircraft or aeronautical buff. 300 color illustrations.

5 out of 5 stars Must have for Instrument Pilots   July 2, 2008

When discussion arises on any IFR procedure, I like to make my point based on FAA reference, instead of third party created book.
Yes, you can download it from FAA website FREE. All FAA sourced material is public domain.
Personally, I have a preference to read and keep paper copy.
Save your eyes for flying and don't kill you printer!
$10 is nothing for 400-page printing and bounding. You can't go wrong by purchasing this book.

1 out of 5 stars Same as FAA book   June 12, 2008
Everything in the book is from the FAA Instrument Flying Handbook which was published as printed in this book in 2007. The content is great. All the FAA publications are and none are copyrighted as our tax dollars paid for them. But Sky Horse does not have a right to claim this publication is more recent that what the FAA or others publish.

5 out of 5 stars Beware of scams...   December 27, 2006

First off... this is an essential book. Do note that it can be downloaded for free from the FAA:

...but many times it's better to have the print version. There are some vendors selling illegal CD versions of this on Amazon when you purchased that are not paperback as listed. Do NOT accept this if they send you a CD. Demand the print, book version if you purchase it - and do not tolerate the scams.

The FAA put together a good book for study and review of IFR material. A true one-stop shop for info.
