Product Description “Messin’ with me’s like wearin’ cheese underwear down rat alley.” -Ollie Chandler
Homicide detective Ollie Chandler has seen it all. Done more than he cares to admit. But when he’s called to investigate the murder of a Portland State University professor, he finds himself going places he’s never gone before.
Places he never wanted to go.
Because all the evidence is pointing to one horrific conclusion: The murderer is someone in his own department. That’s not the worst of it, though. Ollie has nagging doubts…about himself. Where was he during the time of the murder?
Joined by journalist Clarence Abernathy and their friend Jake Woods, Ollie pushes the investigation forward. Soon all three are drawn deep into corruption and political tensions that threaten to destroy them–and anyone who tries to help. But they’re in too deep to quit. They’ve got no choice. They have to follow the evidence to the truth…
No matter how ugly–or dangerous–it gets.
A gripping story of murder and spiritual struggle, Deception proves, as never before, the truth of Ollie’s first law: “Things are often not what they appear.”

Deception is best of Trilogy April 21, 2008 If you enjoyed the first two in the Ollie Chandler trilogy, you're going to love this book. I would only warn you to have some reading time available when you pick this book up - you're not going to want to stop reading.
Great Mystery April 20, 2008 I liked the way Randy wrote with a first person perspective. His character, Ollie, was a bit corny with his old fashioned detective style but Randy carried it off well. The twists and turns of the plot always kept me guessing about the outcome.
Nothing is as it appears. March 12, 2008
Reviewed by Debra Gaynor for ReviewYourBook.com, 3/08 Detective Ollie Chandler was sound asleep when the phone rang. There had been a homicide; the victim's name was Jimmy Ross. The reporters gathered around the apartment building like vultures. The professor had two bullet holes in his head. Nothing is as it appears. As Chandler begins to get closer to the killer, he almost becomes a victim. He suspects the killer is someone he knows. This is the first book that I have read by Randy Alcorn. It will not be the last. Deception is a Christian police procedural novel. This book demonstrates that God loves us and wants to be involved in every aspect of our lives. This is also about bad things happen to good people. Unfortunately, many blame God for the bad things in their life. Alcorn is a gifted writer; he adds twists and turn to his plot to keep readers on the edge of their seat. He has mastered the fine art of adding a touch of humor. I do think Deception is a bit too long. The characters are well-defined. Chandler has a distinctive voice; he is sarcastic, stubborn, and very smart. It took me a while to get into this story; however, after a few chapters, I was hooked. Fans of mystery will enjoy Deception.
Best one yet March 3, 2008 This is the third in the series and I literally could not put it down. I laughed out loud so many times over Ollie. Randy depicted his character so you felt as if he could walk right out of the book. Randy had his conservative codger "John Wayne" type down to a tee. All the characters were wonderful-the whodunit factor kept me guessing through the whole book. Also excellent discussions from the characters about their faith.A great book to share.
gag me with a bible. December 21, 2007 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
Not only is this book one big cliche of detective novel triviality, the Christian overtones drown out the characters, making them all one-dimensional. They're either Believers or Non-Believers. How simplistic and how shallow! People are much more complex than that, and shame on you religious nuts who think this way. There are many of us who believe but refuse to join the sanctimonious crowd of Believers such as the cardboard characters in this book. I thought I was getting a smart detective novel, not knowing its Christian overtones. Instead I got a glossy disingenuous missionary book with wretched writing and stick figures for characters. Ick.
