Product Description

The first meeting between Slater Rawlings and Liberty Drake could hardly be called ideal. As acting deputy of Shotgun, Texas, Liberty is simply enforcing the town laws. But Slater, a former Texas Ranger with a restless spirit, is surprised to find himself on the wrong side of the law—and even more shocked to realize it’s a she who is arresting him!

Yet Slater finds himself drawn to the close–knit town, to its strong church family, and especially to the fascinating Deputy Drake. As his heart grows tender toward Liberty, Slater longs to see her turn in her badge. Can Liberty, realizing her awakening feelings for the rugged cowboy, give up her position when so many townspeople have come to rely on her? As Slater and Liberty struggle to understand their own feelings and find common ground in their beliefs, God’s hand gently guides the way in this heartwarming romance.

About This Series: Grab your hat and horse and head to the Lone Star state in the pages of the popular Yellow Rose Trilogy (nearly 500,000 sold)! Lori’s engaging characters, heartwarming romances, and inspirational truths team with fresh new covers to please fans and win new readers everywhere.

2 out of 5 stars "Not Enjoyable"   August 27, 2008
Lori Wick fell short on this book. She is obviously a talented author, but the plot and characters were a bit shallow. Reading this was like dining on crackers. Sure, you can fill up on crackers, but would you not want something with a bit more flavor?
Secondly, let's not celebrate the fact that a woman had to give up a position that she was obviously great at because of her ovaries and uterus. Really now! I hope no baby Christians read this and think that this is normal Christian thought. Has everyone forgotten the noble wife and mother of Proverbs? She excelled, she worked, and she was honored.
Overall, this book was boring and offensive. Skip this and read Sabrina.

1 out of 5 stars Every Little Thing About You   August 11, 2008
Beyond Grace Livingston Hill or CS Lewis I usually don't read Christian Fiction, but I picked this book up for some super light reading. First, let me say that I did enjoy that Mrs. Wick shows an excellent sense of taking things to the Lord and portrays characters with a reasonable sense of Christian growth and failings.
However, there were two glaring problems with the book. The foremost problem is that of historical outlook. The attitude of a woman's place in the home was far more indicative of the 1950's than the 1870's or 1880's when the book seems to be set. There wasn't a sense of the acceptance that birth and death are acceptable parts of a fallen world which would have been part of the Christian worldview at the end of the 1800's in pioneer communities. The risks that the main character Liberty takes when she has to stand in as deputy would have been considered reasonable and child birth would have been a far greater hazard in their remote reality. Liberty's romantic interest would have been applauded for finding a woman who could shoot so well that she could be part of the family's defenses.
My second objection to the book is the reason I overlooked the first to finish the book. I found it disturbing that Mrs. Wick focused on Liberty's pride in her abilities and didn't explore Slater's obvious lack of trust that if God had gifted this woman with abilities that made her an excellent help to her brother, God could keep her safe. At no point is Liberty unfeminine although she is strong and gifted in a skill that is usually thought of as masculine. However, here is a man who wants to remake this woman in his own vision of safety, a far more insidious pride than the child like pride in accomplishment and finding worth in what we do. Were these characters real people I would expect any marriage to not be very happy until Slater would be willing to release control to God rather than playing the chauvinist who must protect this delicate flower. I doubt that I will read another of Mrs. Wick's books; though I hope she will grow as a writer.

2 out of 5 stars Not so good   March 9, 2008
"Every Little Thing About You," was one of Lori Wicks books at the bottom of my favorites. It seemed to drag and repeat itself. Books like " Wings of the Morning," and "Pretense," keep you interested. They were both well written and I could picture the events in my mind. " Every Little Thing About You," was good aside from how it dragged on.

The title sums this book up "Little Thing". After reading "Sophie's Choice" by Lori Wick I guess I had too high expectations, because this book was not only boring but had very little plot line. It was all I could do to finish it.

Lori Wicks books are always very well written. This one was very good and hard to put down. It is set in the late 1800s. I enjoyrd it very much, and I am looking forward to reading other books in this series!!
