Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars An undeniably worthy addition   May 4, 2008
Part of the World Folklore Series, Lao Folktales collects classic fairy tales, legends, and parables of the people of Laos, garnered through interviews with storytellers as well as studies of old chronicles and palm-leaf manuscripts. More than 50 tales from creation myths to animal tales, Buddhist Jataka, moral stories, trickster tales, ghost stories, riddles, legends, and more fill this wonderfully rich and exciting volume. Enhanced with supplementary material such as a brief introduction into to Lao geography and history, as well as notes on tale sources and motifs, Lao Folktales is an undeniably worthy addition to public library, college library, and private folklore collections everywhere.
