Amazon.com Review Professional medium James Van Praagh (Talking to Heaven) offers a guidebook for the living, which charts the course of the soul as it journeys through life, death, and rebirth. Beyond his psychic gifts, Van Praagh has a gift for simplifying complex spiritual ideas and writing about them in a conversational tone. Most appealing for Van Praagh fans are his detailed theories on death and the afterlife. For example, when people die sudden deaths, Van Praagh reports, spirits of the dead often linger over their bodies, unable to comprehend what has happened (but still able to see and hear everything that is being done and said around the corpse). This is why spirits of the already-deceased are so useful in helping the dead transition to the other side. Speaking of the afterlife, or heaven, Van Praagh writes: In the higher realms everyone is on the same level of spiritual understanding, like a symphony of beings in tune with one another. For some this may mean a reunion with members of their earth family. For others it could be a meeting with former friends and lovers from previous incarnations. Finally, Van Praagh returns to his fascinating stories of channeling the deceased to illustrate how the living can stay on task with their raison d'etre. If we want to help our souls along on their eternal journeys toward enlightenment, then we must remove the emotional obstacles that are blocking their paths, says Van Praagh, who devotes entire chapters to guilt, fear, forgiveness, and love. --Gail Hudson
Product Description James Van Praagh has touched the lives of millions with his extraordinary ability to communicate with the world beyond. In Talking to Heaven, his acclaimed #1 New York Times bestseller, he shared that gift and showed us how to break down the barrier between the earthly and heavenly realms to reach loved ones we have lost. Now, in Reaching to Heaven, he continues his uplifting and transcendent message and reveals how to chart a course for living as spiritual beings in a physical world that will sustain and fill us for decades to come. In this guide to inner peace and spiritual healing, the renowned medium shows us how we can greatly improve our feelings of self-esteem and self-worth by getting more deeply in touch with our emotional selves and the creative "god-like" nature we all possess. As in Talking to Heaven, Van Praagh shares moving stories of after-death communication. You'll be touched and inspired by true accounts that take us through the grieving process, show is how to ease the pain and hurt of living in the material world, and attain new levels of self-awareness, self-acceptance, and personal freedom. In this unique book, James Van Praagh takes us on a journey of hope, healing, and spiritual growth and enlightenment. Filled with his unshakable faith in our ability to achieve anything we set out to accomplish, Reaching to Heaven offers us an evolving vision of ourselves-- and a spiritual realm-- that is within our grasp

Death is not the end! June 27, 2006 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
The muslims teach that islam is the only way!and if you don't follow it,well, you will be condemned to eternity in hell. The christians teach that christ is the only way.And the Hindues have their own theory concerning karma and rincarnation. I found myself a very confuse young man until I read this book.Because based on James' gift we can see that it does not matter what religion you are.It is simply how you live.God resides within us.Religion is just a way to keep order.Yes,there is a god.But if God made us all, everyone of us equal, then how is it each religion teaches this idea of "selfishness". What I am trying to say is simply this(for example)...If the muslims believe that they are the only ones going to heaven, they why did god make the other people(christians, hindues etc).Surely god didn't not deliberately make people just to go to hell, did he?
Well, step out of the darkness.Understand what lies beyond. This book answers all your questions about the afterlife. You would surely understand what god really is,and heaven and hell. You would also see that religion does not matter. The name of this book implies it all. And this book is divided into sections: 1)The journey:this deals with awakening your mind, getting to know you,Death-the way home,The spiritual realms(very interesting),The evolving spirit, and returning to earth.
2)Spirit speaks:In this section the author gives examples of his encounter with spirits and lots more for example:expectations, guilt, fear, forgiveness and BEST of all,LOVE...(you will actually understand the concept of love).
3)The awakening:This helps in remembering the real "you",Guiding our children, and the Keys to higher life(very important)...
After reading this book,I guarantee it that your fear of death will be eliminated and your journey of life will truly begin... Don't get me wrong.I am a christian. But only because of simplicity.I don't contradict anybody's religion. And I understand fully that everyone has an equal chance to go to "heaven",and it doesn't matter what religion we are or race or colour. It all depends on how much we learn to love and understand each other. And with love we can make this world a better place. This is simply what God(the eternal force,Jesus,Allah,Buddah)wants!...
I fully recommend this book along with "Talking to heaven"...Enjoy the read...Nigel.

After reading many books by several empowering authors such as Betty Eadie, John Edward, Sylvia Browne, and Tiffany Snow, that I am still reading, my life has opened up to me in such a compelling and wonderful way. This new book is well written, and thought provoking. There are great transforming authors, who shift the consciousness of humankind in a way never known before, and have the courage to reveal their paranormal experiences. "Reaching to Heaven" is one of these.
This book is heaven-sent! August 24, 2003 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
This book has given my life meaning, answered my questions, inspired me to explore my spirituality, and filled me with awe! I am 26 years old, and I just lost someone very dear to cancer. This book landed in my lap somehow, and has changed my entire outlook on life, death, and filled me with hope and faith and a new sense of motivation! If you have lost a loved one and grieved their "death", read this book. If you question the afterlife or God, read this book! Everyone who has an open mind and believes there's more to life than this but isn't sure what that is, you've gotta read this book!! :) It is truly the most inspiring book I have ever read! It's easy-to-read, informative, and concise.
