5 out of 5 stars Wow! Wonderful!   May 14, 2008

I have read all three of this series and this is the best so far. They have all been very good that is why I bought the 3rd one. Darcy is a great strong lead character and her relationship with Styx is wonderful. I really liked how Styx was portrayed, especially when he was unsure of himself. I enjoyed the entire story and revisiting previous characters who were used in a totally believable way. I especially liked that there was no "over the top" suffering and angst. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Darcy Rocks....   May 11, 2008

I really enjoyed reading this book. Darcy came across as a really strong and witty person. I loved how the author portrayed Darcy and Styx. I didn't have any issues with the plot or how the characters interacted with one another. You should definitely read this book.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Great   May 10, 2008

This is the third of the "Guardians of Eternity" series and I think it is the best one. All are good and reading them in order is the best way to read them. Each character in the new book is introduced in the previous one and I found it easier to get into the books with this small amount of background. But really, these are good books and if you like this type these are great. I can hardly wait for the next one to come out.

Styx is the Annasso of the Vampires, in other words he is the ruler of the Vamps. IF you read the second book EMBRACE THE DARKNESS you already know how he has been made ruler. Now he spends his time trying to keep peace among the different races who inhabit the world along side humans. The Werewolves are trying to revolt and Styx has found out they are hunting a young human woman. He sets out to find her first.

Darcy Smith is an orphan. She had to quit school before graduation and she works at whatever job she can get. She is working as a bartender when Styx finds her minutes before the Weres can grab her. So he grabs her and she wakes to find she is a prisoner of the most lucious sexy man she has ever seen.

While keeping her safe from the Weres and trying to find out why they are do desperate to find her, Styx finds himself caring more and more for the human urchin he has captured. He had been going to use her as a bargaining chip with the Weres but now he only wants to protect her. She is more than human but no one seems able to decide what else is in the mix.

As the romance gets hotter, the danger to Darcy and Styx gets greater. How can Styx earn her trust and her love when he is so determined to keep her safe?

I really loved this one and I encourage you to find all three if you want some good reads. I bought the first one WHEN DARKNESS COMES, then had to have the second EMBRACE THE DARKNESS, and finally DARKNESS EVERLASTING came out. Now I have to wait for the next one. Oh Well, at least I know it will be coming out soon.

5 out of 5 stars Five Blue Ribbons from Romance Junkies!   May 6, 2008

Styx has been placed in the role of Anasso. As the leader of all vampires, he must look out for their best interests in the demonic world. Rumors abound about the Weres and their dissatisfaction at being delegated to a small area of land in which to hunt. With these rumors come details of dead humans, something that Styx can not tolerate. Arriving in Chicago to meet with Viper, his friend and a fellow vampire, Styx needs Viper's help with the only plan he has devised. It seems he has some power where the Weres and their leader, pureblood Salvatore Giuliani, are concerned and it involves a tiny woman named Darcy Smith. Salvatore has been searching for Darcy for years and as luck would have it, Styx finds her first.

Darcy Smith has spent most of her life on the outside looking in. Growing up in foster home after foster home, her earliest lessons were to take care of herself and trust no one. But most of all, she knew something was odd about her. She doesn't know what; just that she has always felt different. When a handsome man and his two goons enter the bar where she works, Darcy finds herself shying away from the stranger's blatant appraisal. Escaping this man becomes her first and foremost desire, but instead of being able to just disappear, she comes face to face with the most stunning and mysterious man she has ever seen.

Styx kidnaps Darcy preparing to hold her as his hostage as a means to get the Weres to cooperate. He doesn't want to desire her, but he does. As the days pass, Styx and Darcy's lives become so intertwined that the reasons for her remaining with him become obsolete. Styx knows one thing and one thing only - Darcy will never be turned over to the Weres, even if he has to keep her hostage forever.

Since reading EMBRACE THE DARKNESS, I have been looking forward to Styx 's story. He caught my attention with his loyalty to the former Anasso and while he did not want to take the now deceased vampire's place, I am glad he did. A product of the ancient Aztecs, Styx is striking with his burnished brown skin and his long braided hair. Like Darcy, I became enamored with him almost immediately. Darcy's characterization made me smile, and I often loved how she played upon Styx 's emotions and teased him. The love they came to find with each other is truly eternal.

DARKNESS EVERLASTING releases in May 2008. Of course, after having read it, I now find myself craving even more from this talented author. I'm thinking that Salvatore's story would be perfect as the next book in this wonderful and addicting series. I wonder if he would be attracted to an enamored book reviewer who has a thing for Weres? ***Natasha Smith for Romance Junkies***

4 out of 5 stars Duty and honor, give way to passion in Darkness Everlasting.   May 6, 2008

Darcy has never fit well into the world, but it isn't until she is kidnapped by vampire leader Styx that she discovers another world, a hidden world where her strength and ability to heal don't mark her as a freak forced to live a lonely existence to hide her otherness -- a world of vampires, demons and werewolves, a world where Darcy is a treasure sought after by the werewolf King Salvatore Giuliani. Styx ever dedicated to his people and his duty initially seeks to use Darcy as a bargaining chip to force the werewolves back under vampire rule, but almost immediately this controlled sensible immortal finds himself inflamed by Darcy's presence and consumed by the desire to protect this spunky, kindhearted woman and soon Styx realizes that he will never be able to let her go. But Darcy is too valuable to Salvatore and his people, Salvatore seeks to make her his queen, and will stop at nothing to possess her. When Salvatore attempts to lure Darcy to his side with the offer of information on the mother and sisters, she never knew existed, will Darcy choose the promise of the family she's always longed for or the powerful Styx who's passion and hidden loneliness calls to her heart and soul?

Styx's attraction to Darcy is immediate and powerful and part of the appeal of the story is how quickly and completely he falls. Knowing from the previous book how much duty and honor have ruled Styx's life and that his commitment to his people has always been his primary focus, the shift we see in Styx as Darcy's protection becomes his driving force underscores the power of his feelings for Darcy and his willingness to let her choose, even at the risk of losing her, shows the true depth of his love. Salvatore is suave and beautiful in his own right with the animal attraction thing going for him. Despite the brutal authority Salvatore must maintain over his wolves who have difficulty controlling their more savage nature, Salvatore's honor kept him from forcing Darcy though the price of offering her a choice was high. This along with his secret desire for a soulmate, a dream in conflict with his duty to insure the survival of his race, kept him from being unappealing. But you probably may have guessed by now who I'd have picked if I got to choose.

Though Styx and many of the supporting characters appeared in previous books - Viper Shay and Levitt in Embrace The Darkness (Guardians of Eternity, Book 2) and Abby in When Darkness Comes (Guardians of Eternity, Book 1) Darkness Everlasting still works as an enjoyable standalone read. Ivy includes a brief teaser for her next book in her Guardians of Eternity series at the end of this but unlike the previous two books where she set up for her next hero - she had me dying for Viper's and Styx's stories -- her intriguing new hero wasn't introduced in this book.
