Product Description

From the savannas of Africa to modern-day labs for biomechanical analysis and molecular genetics, Smithsonian Intimate Guide to Human Origins reveals how anthropologists are furiously redrawing the human family tree. Their discoveries have spawned a host of new questions: Should chimpanzees be included as a human species? Was it the physical difficulty of human childbirth that encouraged the development of social groups in early human species? Did humans and Neanderthals interbreed? Why did humans supplant Neanderthals in the end? In answering such questions, Smithsonian Intimate Guide to Human Origins sheds new light on one of the most important questions of all: What makes us human?

4 out of 5 stars Good Basic Text on Human Evolution   September 24, 2008
This book was less than 10 dollars but printed on high quality paper with very good pictures that go with the readings. It is written more or less like a text book and broken up as such. It is easy to understand and easy to read. A very good overview of the subject of human evolution and the recent theories and discoveries in the topic.

Smithsonian Intimate Guide to Human Origins

Well written easy to understand, wonderful pictures and graffics. This book is a great place to start learning about human origins. If you have a background on the subject the book also provides valued in depth information on genetics as it relates to tracing our orgins. Great Pictures and well illustrated.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting!   August 28, 2008
I had to purchase this book for anthropology in school, but after opening it to check it out, I couldn't put it down! It offered so much information in such an interesting way. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn more about anthropology and evolution.

5 out of 5 stars Thoughtful summary of human evolution   March 5, 2008
When selecting this book to read, I was looking for something that summarized the current state of affairs (scientific) on evolution. I had just read a very interesting article in Newsweek (3/19/07) on evolution, and was seeking a quick and readable summary of the topic. This book delivered. The coverage of the topic was up-to-date and thorough, and the pages actually turned pretty fast.

Please take a look at some of the other reviews for a good description of the book's contents. For me, the book was exactly what I was looking for.
