Fully revised and updated with the addition of a new chapter on biofluid mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Fourth Edition is suitable for both a first or second course in fluid mechanics at the graduate or advanced undergraduate level. The leading advanced general text on fluid mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, 4e guides students from the fundamentals to the analysis and application of fluid mechanics, including compressible flow and such diverse applications as hydraulics and aerodynamics.

  • Updates to several chapters and sections, including Boundary Layers, Turbulence, Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics and Compressibility.
  • Fully revised and updated chapter on Computational Fluid Dynamics.
  • New chapter on Biofluid Mechanics by Professor Portonovo Ayyaswamy, the Asa Whitney Professor of Dynamical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania.
  • New Visual Resources appendix provides a list of fluid mechanics films available for viewing online.

1 out of 5 stars It has never arrived - I want at least my money back   January 12, 2008

That's the very worst shop I ever made using the internet. The book was supposed to arrive in December 26, and it has never arrived. We are now more than 15 days in delay, and there is not even a place to complain about that in the very bureacratic and unefficient Amazon web page. Worse than that, the seller is exactly Amazon.com. I really need the book, and a way to at least let amazon know that the book has NOT arrived so far.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Background Material   January 3, 2008
This is an excellent work if you need background information about fluid mechanics, it explains basic notions such as the continuity equation in a mathematically rigorous, but nevertheless easily understandable way.
However, if you are primarily in need of a resource for computational methods this is definitely not what you are looking for. In such a case I would for instance recommend the -works of Zienkievicz and Taylor, if you are interested in FEM.

2 out of 5 stars Not a great choice for students   November 27, 2007

This book is not a great resource for a student. There are few examples, and the exercises at the end of each chapter are short and not very diverse. The exercises also have no solutions, not a big deal but the text has few examples.

If you just need a reference this book is ok, but please don't teach from it!

5 out of 5 stars Good book   November 24, 2007
This is a good book to begin learning the fundamentals of fluid mechanics in a science point of view.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Fluid Mechanics Resource   March 25, 2007
7 out of 7 found this review helpful

Cohen and Kundu did a commendable job in coming up with a book that provides an excellent foundation in fluid mechanics. This should be the first book on the shelf for anyone seeking a comprehensive coverage of fluid mechanics which is readable, well organized and easy to follow. The novice and the expert will find the book useful, helpful and handy.

Although there are some few minor errors in the book, these do little to detract from a very enlightening and student-friendly textbook.
