5 out of 5 stars A MUST-have for Asthmatics   November 1, 2008
Mucinex is a must-have for asthmatics whom are attacked by mucus. Why? Mucinex dissolves mucus, which prevents air flow.

As an uninsured asthmatic in the USA, this time-released product, coupled with antihistamines, makes side-effected inhaler use extremely RARE [especially when a bad cold is present].

5 out of 5 stars Loosens the phlegm in your lungs very quickly   September 20, 2008
I'm not a doctor and I don't have a medical condition where I need to use this product regularly. But if I get a cold and chest congestion this is the product I use.

I swear by this product and recommend it to everyone who suffers from heavy phlegm when they get sick. You really need to drink water when you take this. I made the mistake of going light on the water one time and had a hard time coughing up the phlegm.

More than anything else this product allows me to sleep a full night without having to get up for a second dosage.

4 out of 5 stars 12 hour relief gets you through the night   December 15, 2007
I'm recovering from a bout of pneumonia that put me in the hospital for a week. The hospital bed allowed me to sleep sitting up. Once I got home I couldn't sleep in my bed because I couldn't lie flat without coughing and getting short of breath. After a night sleeping propped up on the couch, I started taking this and can now sleep in the bed. Since it is extended release, you don't have to get up after 4 hours to take another dose. This formula both thins mucous (so you don't get that choking feeling) and reduces cough. I'm very glad I had this in the medicine cabinet "just in case." I didn't give it five stars because I think the price is unnecessarily high.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing   May 20, 2007

I am an old iron lung survivor that has lived many years outside that metal pita pocket, thankfully. However, recently, four years ago, symptoms returned and it was discovered that I have fairly non-functional diagphragms that appeared to be getting weaker. Well, having two health insurances, with Cigna as the primary, I was prescribed for trial a device called The Vest made by Hill-Rom. A truely amazing device that pummeled your chest with pneumatic pulses through a vest system and that loosened the phlegm in your chest and increased the quality of air exchange.
After a 3 month trial I called Cigna and they said to go ahead and get it and this information was passed on to Hill Rom. After being billed for it, Cigna changed their minds and left the cost in my hands. Needless to say I could not afford a device that costs, well, lots. So, Hill Rom was kind enough to take it back and I was left with the original problem of struggling to breath. Thank you Cigna (who has nothing in writing to substantiate my claim - strange how things get miscommunicated always to the insurance companies benefit) - now out of my life forever and I hope others take note. Get everything in writing from Cigna, and others.
A few months later someone mentioned Musinex and I brought this up with my doctor. He thought it was worth a trial. It was non-prescription and quite expensive, but, thought I would try it anyway.
I have not had a better reaction to a medication. I can do things I have not done in two years. I am breathing better and even if not as good as the 20+K Vest, it is am amazing substitute that I do not intend to do without.
I do caution anyone that needs to take this over an extended period to check drug interactions with other meds with your doctor. Just a safe practice.

1 out of 5 stars Too Strong! stick with Robitussen DM!   March 31, 2007
2 out of 5 found this review helpful

I've been taking Robitussen DM as per ER doc for Viral Bronchitis along with Albuterol inhaler & antibiotics... slow but steady progress in recovering... decided to give Mucinex DM a try instead of the Robitussen DM, thinking it would help me better thru night hours... Big Mistake!

I have had disorientation, joint aches, nausea, waves of flushing & heat flashes, for over 15 hours since I took 1 tablet of the Mucinex DM ... Strongly recommend you consult with a doctor before substituting this for Robitussen DM or trying this for any reason.

I do not recommend Mucinex DM for anyone without doctor's approval... I'm not even sure this should be OTC!
