Great book June 6, 2008 This is a wonderful book. The glossary and table of all the CD##s are worth the price. The text splits the difference between an engaging overview like "How the Immune System Works" and a definitive reference like Janeway. I found this book to be very helpful in medical school. For someone with little to no background in immunology interested in getting a reasonable med student introduction I'd say start by reading "How the Immune System Works" then move onto "Basic Immunology" to get the details.
Good product but unexpected excessive prize June 4, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
My transaction: This book matches totally to the given description, but if I used Amazon, it was to get better prize than with traditional markets. I am a confirmed eBayer, but I bought a book through Amazon for the first time, because I found a little difference with my bookshop. Unfortunately, I have been very disappointed with the shipment delay, and more importantly by additional taxes increasing the prize by 15 USD.
The book: We can consider that Immunology Textbook World is dominated by 2 major complementary series of books. The first one is Janeway's Immunobiology serie, and the second one is the serie directed by Abbas. The present book 'Basic Immunology' is written in a concise and precise style, which allows a successful first contact with all the basics, and the most recent development of Immunological topics. Readers will find useful figures and tables which allow a better understanding. The comprehension is also improved with the absence of unuseful details. This keeps students from been drowning in unsuitable complexity, but importantly the rigour is met. A good choice to make your first steps with Immunology (or remember them), and make a long way in the most specialised areas of the immune system studies.
Great Book! May 19, 2008 I thoroughly enjoyed using this book for Immuno in Medical School. It uses great diagrams and doesn't have too much information which seems to be the case for most books in med. school.
