5 out of 5 stars practical & important help   March 16, 2008
My daughter, then age 12, got the shingles, a disease usually reserved for older people. I didn't know what it was, but she was in quite a bit of distress. It was Memorial Day Weekend, and I had to take her to a walk-in clinic, the only place around that was open. They prescribed an anti-viral. When we got home, I looked it up in this book. It said that the drug was not approved for children. On Tuesday, I called her pediatrician, who agreed with the book & substituted a different medications. I was glad that I had the book and the information. Otherwise, who knows if I even would have called her doctor?

5 out of 5 stars Every household should have one   December 25, 2007

Great book that every household should have. It is up to date, easy to use, and written in laymans terms. I would recommend it. I try to keep the newest version on hands.

This is my second different copy of the Pill book and I would not take any medications without reading it first. I am disappointed though that I could never find the book in hard back

This is a very good book. It tells you a lot more than the pharmacy papers that you receive with your drugs.

5 out of 5 stars Useful and Easy to Read   May 16, 2007

I am a college student who is planning on applying to a pharmacy school in the next year or two. I also currently work at a pharmacy.

This book is really helpful in getting me acquainted with medications. I study one or two different medications a night just so I will be familiar with the prescriptions when I'm at work or later on when I'm in pharmacy school. It familiarizes me with the generic and brand names of drugs, side effects, uses, etc. When I'm at work I have the pharmacists quiz me on stuff when there's a lull and nothing to do. Because it's so easy to read, I actually look forward to reading it at night before I sleep-- it's definitely easier to get through than some of the reading I'm assigned at school!

I brought it home for my parents, who find it only slightly useful. My dad is the only one who picks up prescriptions, and it's usually the same stuff all the time, so after reading up on his meds he didn't really have any interest in the book. However, I can see how some families, and not just students, can find this book useful.
