Product Description
This best-selling resource provides a general overview and basic information for all adult intensive care units. The material is presented in a brief and quick-access format which allows for topic and exam review. It provides enough detailed and specific information to address most all questions and problems that arise in the ICU. Emphasis on fundamental principles in the text should prove useful for patient care outside the ICU as well. New chapters in this edition include hyperthermia and hypothermia syndromes; infection control in the ICU; and severe airflow obstruction. Sections have been reorganized and consolidated when appropriate to reinforce concepts. Purchase of The ICU Book, Third Edition gives you free access to a Website featuring links from references to PubMed, updated regularly; and a directory of Websites handpicked by Dr. Marino.

The best May 2, 2008 This is the best practical clinical book I have read in the field of medicine. Easy to read with a lot of practical application. You read this book and you will be a star clinical intern, resident and attending too....
This is a great book April 7, 2008 I highly recommend this book to medical students, interns and residents. My ICU attending recommended it to me before the rotation and I thought that it was helpful, easy reading and explained common prodecures ( ie central lines).
Great book! April 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I own the 2nd ed. and am looking forward to owning the 3rd. This was recommended to me when I first started Critical Care (CC) Nursing 6 years ago and I have yet to find anything even close. I love the fact a physician wrote it. The information is much more clear than any CC nursing text/book I have bought. ... and I have tons. It follows more closely to the medical model, not a nursing format... ie. it doesn't include nursing diagnosis or nursing care. I feel much more confident discussing patients with colleagues, families and patients after looking up my facts in this book. As mentioned in other reviews, some may not think of this as a 'quick reference' book, but I know if I have it with me I am always referring to it. It's heavy because the print is large (also mentioned in other reviews) making it thick, but really is quite concise in all it's explanations. I would purchase this book for anyone involved in Critical Care.
Absolutely fantastic! February 5, 2008 Dr Marino has created a resource for all students, residents, and physicians wanting to better understand topics typically poorly understood, taught, or written about. Its a must as it will make you a better physician! Really!
Good but but outdated. September 4, 2007 I used this for my 5 MICU month rotations. It was useful but a lot of the material is dated. Early Goal Directed Therapy is not in here and the pressor we use at our facility are not dicussed in great detail here. I actually found it more helpful for my cardiac critical care rotations.
