 An excellent book for any intelligent movie fan October 3, 2007

This is an excellent, well-written book containing information about films many critics dismiss as unworthy of serious attention. In addition to the wealth of historical information contained within the critical evaluations of each film, the author also contrasts the quality of the various DVD editions available and provides the running times, region codes and names of the companies responsible for marketing these movies. This information is important when trying to find films that have not been readily available in the past and may be difficult to track down even now in a form that is watchable and not of embarrassingly poor quality.
As for the notion that this book is riddled with errors (an odd description for 2 errors found in a book of over 750 pages), it is safe to disregard such hyperbolic nonsense and purchase this excellent book, a very welcome addition to the library of any DVD collector and movie aficianado.
In closing, I would like to say the supposed error concerning Aguirre, Wrath of God is not an error at all. In fact, the author contrasts Fitzcarraldo to Aguirre, Wrath of God within the text of the review. The difficulties discussed in this book that occured during the filming of Aguirre are well-documented.

Yes, this book may list some movies you've never seen and that you may want to check out, but it is riddled with errors. Any given perusal yields factual mistakes that any writer willing to Google the movie could correct. I can't believe this is a revised and expanded edition! To give a few examples: The DVD image for The Arena with Pam Grier shows the wrong movie. There's a Miss Marple reference on The Mirror Crack'd that refers to the movies from the 1950s, but they were made in the 1960s! Angel Heart is refered to as a great movie from the 1990s, but it was made in the 1980s! Oh, but it's not just facts they get wrong. There are a couple of paragraphs in Aguirre, the Wrath of God that are clearly about one of Herzog's other films (Fitzcaraldo), another film he made in the Amazon. It's like they remembered some rumor, and then attributed it to the wrong film. No fact-checking! No editing! After five minutes of reading, I started to wonder if I could trust anything they were saying. If you love movies, this is a great list of movies. If you love reading something that is written in a way that would get more than a C-grade in a high school English class, this isn't for you. The morons who wrote this book could've had one good editor read through their essays and point out the errors, but one gets the idea that the essays were spontaneously produced late one night while the writers were drunk or stoned, a review never to be reviewed again. Then again, I suppose there are not too many Ph.Ds or rocket scientists who spend time deciding what the weirdest movies are in the world or writing Amazon reviews. I'll just mention one more movie, in the world of _Idiocracy_, these guys would be D. V. Didiots. Your stupid minds. Your stupid, stupid minds.

This is a wonderful book. I am a certified DVD addict, specializing in extreme, exploitation, wild, wonderful, and off-the-radar films. This voluminous gem (along with 'Cult Flicks and Trash Pics') has served as my bible for the last year. This book has been an invaluable guide into opening my already wide-eyes to a number of amazing films that I had never even heard off...
The information provided in this book has paid for itself many times over. The reviews are very well written and informative...
The things that this book does better than any others I have encountered thus far, is that it explains and clarifies the differences amongst the different releases for the same film wonderfully. 'DVD Delerium' has saved me countless dollars, and has ceaselessly pointed me to the proper version of my favorite Italian Zombie films and Exploitation gems. There are so many versions of some of these films, that blindly picking the right one is a virtually impossibility without some authoritative help. This guide provides just that flawlessly...
The film selection within is exquisite: classics, foreign films, horror, exploitation, and just plain awesome films that managed to hide from us discerning addicts are all described perfectly...
The only drawback to purchasing this fantastic guide, is that it will invariably cause you to spend far too much money on DVD's... Good Luck!

Are you a DVD addict? Like strange and confusing movies from around the globe? Don't know which version to buy? This is the book for you. If you understand the word psychotronic then this book is for you. If you want to know which version of Cannibal Holocaust or Suspiria to buy then get this. You should buy both volumes 1 and 2.

One of the most frustrating things about DVD is trying to find an accurrate reliable source of information on the content and presentation of feature films on DVD. It amzes me that in this 'information age' that so many books, magazines and websites churn out reviews which are merely plot decriptors - any fool can do this.
But 'DVD Delirium' goes beyond all this. If you are a real film fan (i.e. Hollywood rarely satisifes you), especially with a taste for Horror, SF and Cult Films, you MUST own this book. It provides info on aspect ratios, audio options, cuts, extras etc etc working from an international base, so if you want the ultimate version of that (for example) Dario Argento film, it will tell you which one is the best and closest to the director's original intention.It is especially useful if you live outside the States - I live in the Uk and a shocking number of DVDs here are still cut versions
It also has plot synopses to whet your appetite, but even if you've read 100 reviews of your favourite films, the author will tell you something new. There is a second volume available which is not as exciting (there is one reviewer, Tim Greaves, who is knowledgeable but needs copy editing to my mind)-you can buy it from Aamzon in the UK.
Wherever you are in the world, this book is essential and it will save you money and ensure you end up buying the best possible version of the films you love.
Finally, having worked in the book trade for 20 years I must say this is in my top 3 reference books of all time in terms of depth and quality. BUT IT NOW IF YOU LOVE DVD !
