Product Description
Schuyler Van Alen wants an explanation for the mysterious deaths of young vampires. With her best friend, Oliver, Schuyler travels to Italy in the hope of finding the one man who can help--her grandfather. Meanwhile, back in New York, preparations are feverishly underway for the Four Hundred Ball, an exclusive gala hosted by the city's wealthy, powerful, and unhuman--a true Blue Blood affair.

But it's at the after-party, a masquerade ball thrown by the cunning Mimi Force, that the real danger lurks. Hidden behind the masks is a revelation that will forever change the course of a young vampire's destiny.

Rich with glamour, attitude, and vampire lore, this second installment in the Blue Bloods saga will leave readers thirsting for more.

5 out of 5 stars Vampire book is different 2nd book in series   October 12, 2008
I liked this book more then the first in the series because i knew what was going on, and I could understand who these vampires were made. They really never died, their dna is transferred into a new vampire body, but after they turn a certain age they remember the past lifes. But there is a twist Schuyler doesn't have a past life because her father was a human and her mother was a vampire. So now the vampires of New York are very concerned about her and what she means to their family. The only way to understand these books is to read them. It is a good read.

4 out of 5 stars Masquerade an apt title   October 3, 2008
Masquerade picks up a few weeks after Blue Bloods ends with Schulyer and Oliver searching Venice for Schulyer's grandfather, Lawrence Van Alan. She does find him and events move more quickly once he enters the picture.

I don't want to give away too much of it, but Mimi gets accused of being the harborer of the Silver Bloods, and a Silver Blood herself after she was found in the possession of dark magic.

Schulyer ends up saving her because as the daughter of Gabrielle, she is the only one of the Blue Bloods who can taste the blood of other vampires without succumbing to the addiction and memory overload that can cause madness.

The action is far from being over - they managed to find out about one Silver Blood and the rest of Council knows about the danger but nothing else has happened to really put a stop to them and they are all in danger until then...

The action moves along with a nice pace and the title sums the book up nicely. There is an actual masquerade ball but the title seems to really bring out the idea of not knowing who is on which side of the 'fight'. Sometimes it even seems like the characters themselves don't know which side they are on.

It's well worth reading but I think I'd have absolutely confused if I had not read the first book first. This is not a series you can just pick up on from the middle.

I always read the authors blogs...Before buying.....This author is too into pushing her politics on others- so I won't buy or read her books....too much like paying someone for their opinion on non book related topics.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing and addicting!   September 26, 2008
When I read the first blue blood book, In the begining I thought it was an okay..but then you get to the middle and end of the novel..it gets even better. So I purchased masquerade and Oh boy was I addicted! I finished it in a couple of hours and It's SOOO GOOD. This wole love triangle being confused with Oliver and Jack is just amazing and the fact that she has to figure things out on her own especially about the blue bloods makes it even better. I like how all the characters are ALL interesting. It's hard to explain how good the book is but once you read it you'll be hooked.. well only if your into vammpire-romance-mystery stuff. If you like the twilight series than you will like this except it isn't as romantic as twilight but it's more mysterious and fun! this helped me move on from being a huge twi-hard fan.

4 out of 5 stars The Compulsive Reader's Reviews   September 19, 2008

Everyone in the Blue Blood community is shaken by the attack on Cordelia Van Allen, and the deaths of young Blue Bloods across the city. Schuyler knows that the Silver Bloods are behind it, but no one will tell her anything about them--the adults either refuse to acknowledge their existence, or are too frightened to. So she sets off to Venice with Oliver to search for her grandfather, Lawrence Van Allen, who supposedly has the answers she seeks. Meanwhile, back in New York, Bliss is devastated at Dylan's death and refuses to accept the fact that he is dead, and Mimi is slowly realizing that Jack might not be hers for very long unless she does something. And that something may involve conspiring with the one person who is determined to obliterate them all.

Breathtaking action and suspense dominates Melissa de la Cruz's second book in the Blue Bloods trilogy. The plot steers away from the rich and luxurious lifestyle slightly, and focuses a bit more on the silent war between the Blue Bloods and Silver Bloods, and dark secrets that have been kept among the Blue Bloods, making for a more convoluted and fascinating plot. More information is given on Blue Blood powers and weaknesses, and it seems that just as de la Cruz cleverly ties up one mystery, she open up two more. Schuyler and Bliss's characters are more fully realized in masquerade, especially as they begin to mature as Blue Bloods. Schuyler is also forced to deal with her feelings for both Oliver and Jack, leaving readers even more torn than ever. All of these many elements combined will only further draw readers into the glitzy and edgy Blue Blood world, and invoke some strong feelings of anticipation for the solutions to many puzzling mysteries. This highly creative and absorbing book will thrill readers.
