Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Author Richard Landerman takes random, everyday musings and weaves them together with humor and substance using the common thread of fly fishing. His candid ruminations over such topics as life, death, sex, international politics, dentist's chairs, religion, art, literature, shaving lotion, lemon meringue pies, moustaches, growing up, skunks, and weather reporters will surely entertain you, cause you to reflect, and most certainly - itch to grab a fly rod. The Fly Rod Chronicles is a tapestry of a simple and provident life; an absorbing look back at the sport of fly fishing and one man's fifty year pursuit of this quiet pastime.

5 out of 5 stars The Fly Rod Chronicles - flyfishing is just the beginning   December 25, 2007

Dick Landerman carries on a tradition of authors who examine flyfishing as a metaphor for life's journey - in the spirit of Ernest Schwiebert, Nick Lyons, and John Gierach.
But unlike the aforementioned authors, Landerman neither claims nor chronicles any special talent for capturing trout on a fly. He speaks for the rest of us - guys (and gals) with day jobs, civic assignments, kids and grandkids, aches and pains. In other words, the broad, unofficial flyfishing club whose members would love to spend their lives chasing trout, but settle for the limited time, talent and resources they have to pursue "the quiet sport."
There are musings on life's ironies, personal travails, government encroachments, unexpected setbacks, an often-bewildered spouse, and both good and bad days onstream. You'll meet a broad assortment of characters - a streamside critic coaching him on the art of netting a trout, a salmon-fishing guide who takes some big ones on a few highly unorthodox patterns, a non-fishing neighbor who asks, "What's the point?" To Landerman's credit, he makes a valiant stab over 206 pages to answer that rhetorical question, taking the reader from Alaska to Canada's Bow River, to Idaho's South Fork, and back again to his beloved home streams.

This is a witty and funny book about life. The author takes you through life's ordinary experiences while tying in to his love of nature and fishing. This is a great read as well as thought provoking. Recommended!
