Product Description
With a career record of 420-273 and an MSU mark of 340-220, Jud Heathcote has more than stood the test of time; upon his retirement, he was the fifth-winningest coach in Big Ten history. He directed the Spartans to the 1979 NCAA championship, three Big Ten titles, and seven 20-win seasons. He was named National Coach of the Year by his peers in 1990 and earned similar honors from national publications, as the "Jud Farewell Tour" swept the Midwest. For the 1994-95 campaign, the Spartans finished 14-4 in the Big Ten and 22-6 overall.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Before Izzo there was Jud   November 3, 2000
A must read for any MSU basketball fan. The Book takes you thru Jud's entire career. From his start in Washington as a High School coach, to his days at WSU/Montana, and finally to MSU.

The book is an easy read and hits on almost every year he coached at MSU . It even discusses Mateen as the next great player. Though I don't agree with him on some issues (He thought Scott Skiles should of got a break on his DUI arrest and charge). The book will also give you feel for the turmoil that goes along with being a basketball coach in the Big Ten. From dealing with the Politics of the Administration on Campus, to clearing his name of any wrong doings with Parrish Hickman. The book also states why he stayed an extra two years...

A quick read that will take you through the Jud years at MSU

4 out of 5 stars A must for all college basketball fans   August 24, 1998

The book was nicely orgainized with numerous chapters, which all took on a different subject and each read like a long SI feature. It starts with Jud's early years, goes through the Magic Johnson years (with some neat anectdotes) and finishes up having Jud talk about a high school star Mateen Cleaves, who MSU needed to get, which MSU did.

Great book, quick read.

4 out of 5 stars An interesting look at an underrated coach.   July 15, 1997

In this autobiographical book, Jud Heathcote discusses his career. There is an interesting look back on his pre-Michigan State days as well as his championship run. He also spends time discussing many of the great players who have played for him, including the most famous, Earvin "Magic" Johnson
