Product Description SKI, ANIMALS, ROCKY MOUNTAINS. A beautifully illustrated story tells a legendary origin of skis with fictional characters. The snow-covered alpine and spruce trees are called snow ghosts because during the winter, their trunks and branches are weighted down with snow and ice. With the wind and sun, the trees give the shape of ghosts.Thrill with the little snow ghost named Blizzard as he meets with Mother Grizzly, Mr. Wolf, and Mr. Eagle. With their help, Grandfather Olaf rescues the lost snow ghost with "those things" on his feet. Rocky Mountain Snow Ghosts August 3, 2008 Snow Ghosts is a delightful little book that will be dear to the hearts of any child who knows the mountains, and will make all the others want to go there. The shimmering illustrations add to the magic, and Hirst's narrative includes bits of mountain lore and natural history feed young minds.
A Sweet Tale and No Scary Villains! July 27, 2008 Rocky Mountain Snow Ghosts is intelligently written and charmingly illustrated. It is educational without being pedantic, and, unlike many children's books, a pleasure to read over and over again. I particularly appreciate the fact that all of Ms. Hirst's characters are kind and generous, and that the story moves along nicely without the need for scary villains or violent confrontations. Bravo, Ms. Hirst, for creating a sweet story in a world too full of fearful images.
Mountain scenery reminds me of home June 4, 2008 Having grown up in the Rockies as a child and having lived in the Midwest for the past 25 years, it was a pleasure to see the Snow Ghosts in such a charming story. I read it to my grandchildren explaining that those snow ghosts really do exist. They loved the snow skiing related story and the animals. It was hard for them to envision the characters but the photos and illustrations did the trick. Lovely. I have six granddaughters and I intend to buy a copy for each one.
Wonderful Children's Adventure June 4, 2008 This is a beautifully written and illustrated story about Blizzard, a Rocky Mountain Snow Ghost and his adventures with his family and many of his animal friends. Highly recommended for children and adults of all ages, especially skiers, snowboarders and anyone that loves snow, mountains or the environment.
