Product Description
Sprawling and strange, magical and melancholy, continually veering between triumph and disaster, Buenos Aires is an irresistible destination. Written entirely by residents, Time Out Buenos Aires casts a cool, critical eye on the places, people, and culture that have made this metropolis great and the contemporary trends that are conspiring to make it greater still. Bypassing the "Paris of South America" cliches, this guide cuts through the confusing jumble of influences that is Buenos Aires’ trademark. The book sharply profiles century-old cafes and world-famous steak houses; word-of-mouth bars and back-street bistros; late-night tango salons and all-night clubs; prestigious cultural landmarks and improvised warehouse galleries. Candid, current, detailed, and informative, Time Out Buenos Aires is the perfect companion for visitors both new and seasoned.

Average guide lacking details November 6, 2008 Time Out is a decent guide that provides a rough overview of the sights and attractions. Whereas Lonely Planet or the Rough Guide would provide supplemental maps for major sites and excursions out of town, Time Out does not. Rarely does any attraction get more than a cursory, one paragraph write-up.
The included maps are colorful, and the inclusion of address numbers at each block is extremely handy; however, the fact that the maps overlap and the hotels, restaurants, and sites are shown on only one of the two overlapping maps makes using them somewhat confusing.
Tiny mistakes and omissions abound. For example, the ("2008 edition") guide says that Buenos Aires uses the European round plugs for electricity; in fact, Argentina officially switched to the Australian plug in the early 2000's. As another example, the guide never mentions the airport departure tax.
All in all, this guide feels like a "Cliff's Notes" -- perhaps good enough to get an overall impression, but I certainly wouldn't want to rely on it.
Time Out Buenos Aires November 5, 2007 Good read - lots of useful suggestions. Very good on the barrios or neighborhoods. Somewhat out of date - e.g. the Sydney Opera House style nightclub referenced in the section on the docks has apparently been burned out for several years.
Good book, good service October 28, 2007 Despite what others said about this book containing lots of ads, it's compact (easy to carry along) and very useful. A good buy.

All the information you need to know.......where to go, what to see and how to do it.......The small, compact size made the guide easy to carry and go with at all times.
I love this guide! July 1, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
After searching through many guidebooks, I settled for TimeOut, and let me tell you, I am glad that I did.
This book gave me everything I needed to know about beautiful Buenos Aires. The places that my Argentine friend recommended to me were all listed in this book, so that shows you how good it is!
Definitely must buy this before going to Buenos Aires, or Argentina itself. Great read, great pictures, great food in Argentina! :)
