Amazon.com If you think of your pet as a family member, it only follows that Fluffy should come along on family vacations. But between "no pets allowed" signs and over-the-top surcharges, it seems like your only option for accommodations is a tent. For travel anywhere in North America, those options are about to change, thanks to Traveling with Your Pet, a comprehensive and easy-to-use guide for AAA-rated lodgings that welcome four-legged guests. Most of the book reads like any standard travel book. Arranged alphabetically by state, you'll find hotels in both small towns and major cities, with a list of icons showing what amenities you can expect. Instead of descriptions of restaurants or spas, you'll find a sentence or two outlining pet policies. Here, a careful reading can save you a bundle. Although many hotels are happy to house animals, surcharges range anywhere from $5 total to $100 per night and, in some cases, only particular species of small size are accepted. This section cautions readers to confirm the current policy in advance. The last thing you want to discover upon arrival with your two labs is that the policy was changed the day before you made the reservations. Other than these listings, information is relatively limited, but can be helpful to newcomers to the world of pet vacations. Contact information is provided for several airlines, as well as emergency animal health-care suggestions and advice for buying safe traveling equipment. Dog owners will appreciate the list of off-leash dog parks throughout the U.S., which includes rules for national parks and forests. In fact, with all its practical information, you may find this book puts your regular pet sitter out of a job! --Jill Lightner

If you travel with pets you need this book..... July 14, 2008 I wish I would have known about this book years ago. I can't tell you the number of times we have pulled into a motel - exhausted - only to be told "we don't take pets"! Included in this book are the rates, exact locations, exit numbers, phone numbers, motel ratings, discount information, and much more. Everyone with a pet needs this book. Your pet will love you!!!
Traveling With Your Pet, 10th Edition; The AAA Petbook July 14, 2008 Very good information for places to stay with a pet. We use this book every time we travel and it has never failed us.
Glad I bought it July 13, 2008 Although I haven't actually put the information to use, I have read the listings and feel this book would be very helpful on the road. It will definitely go with me when I move!
Very helpful source July 11, 2008 I find this book essential for traveling cross-country with our dog. It is particularly useful to know about additional fees and if the AAA discount applies. This is our second copy (we own the previous edition, too). I can't imagine setting out without it! I sometimes find the 'alphabetical by place' arrangment a little frustrating, especially when you just want to know what motels are along a particular Interstate that you are driving on. New users, be careful of the metropolitan area groupings, too. This source is best used in conjunction with a detailed road map.
Good stuff here July 26, 2007 While this book arrived too late for the actual planning of my recent trip to pick up a dog it would have saved me hours of research had I had it from the beginning. If the listings aren't complete there is certainly enough information there to give you the opportunity to find what you are looking for. Just having the central reservation lines of the large motel chains is a help in finding out if the individual properties accept animals is worth the price of the book in itself.
I found it spotty in finding information on where public areas that accepted my dog on or off leash could be located. I picked up (a lot) more and better information from the surfing the internet and talking to folks along the way.
Even with its shortcomings it was worth the money - I'll use it frequently.
