5 out of 5 stars Splendid!   July 27, 2008
I have loved this book! I take it everywhere with me so that I can always pick it up and read about another city to travel too. This book is full of entertainment, travel, food, fashion, and safety suggestions. Each city is carefully mapped out and full of wonderful travel ideas for every woman out there. This book doesn't cater to one personality type, it caters to everyone. This book is great for planning your trip!

5 out of 5 stars A Travel Must for All Women   July 23, 2008
Bought copies of this book for both myself and my 20-year old niece. She was blown away -- she found a love of exotic places (re: anywhere outside of the Pacific Northwest) during a stint as a foreign exchange student and now can't wait to finish college and set out to discover Willamson's 50 places for herself! As for me, I've traveled a lot both solo and accompanied and this book tells it all. Love the tone -- anytime I'm a little down thinking about another all-day meeting, I can pick up my copy and escape until I make my next trip -- with Flying Solo in my carry-on of course!

1 out of 5 stars It's OK but this is not a Travel Book   February 8, 2008

I am an experiences solo women traveller looking for some new places to visit. I was more concerned with safe places for women to travel alone without getting hassled. This woman seemed more concerned about where to party and what kind of shoes we should be wearing. Honestly I am 33 year old traveler and I know to dress and I rather learn more about what are safe areas to travel to, where to stay safely and honestly more about what to see in do. I think the only thing I need from this book is the first page of the locations. The content in the book gave me no help of what do and how to experience the city. I don't think flirting and trying to seduce men and where to shop is experiencing a city. This book was just not a travel book it was a travel story. Its definitely not Rick Steves or Lonely Planet. I was disappointed.

Thought this book would inform me of places that were safe and easy for a single to visit. NOT! It lists cities and just a few details - not very good with that either. Example: be sure to bring your thong - men here don't like pantie lines.

My one problem with "Flying Solo - The 50 Best Places on Earth for a Girl to Travel Alone" is that I didn't think of it myself. It's a great resource for when planning that next trip by yourself. I've been a solo traveler for ever. Flying Solo saves me the trouble of long hours of research. It gets me where I want to be, with pertinent information about the things I know I don't want to miss. It worked fabulously for my trip to Paris a few months ago. Now I'm planning Iceland. Which leads me to perhaps my second problem: will there be a book number 2? I know I'm curious about at least another 50 places and now that Miss Williamson has taken on this job, I'd love her take on them too.
