Second Best Book June 4, 2008 The YES!Attitude may be the second best book I have read. I am sure there is one better but I haven't found it yet. I have read it four times and am reading it for the fifth time not because I am slow learner but rather because the lessons are worth learning. I have read most of the reviews of the book on this site and all I can say to those who gave it a poor rating that sometimes people read the words but fail to grasp the meaning. As I read this I could only imagine what a wonderful world this would be if everyone adopted the ideas and concepts of this book. Contrary to some of the reivews I found an Aha on almost every page. Every time something happens that I don't like I now think of the book and more specifically, "I don't like what's happening but I know I am going to learn something really great" or words to that effect. I have taken it a step further. I wear a necklace beneath my shirt that I use to remind myself everytime I see or feel it that being positive is a choice and I choose to be positive. I am purchasing 20 copies to give to my 4 children and my best friends.
Great Foundation For Self-Improvement Books May 14, 2008 This is a fantastic book that communicates. If you are now searching for more than your inspirational quotes book or your motivational pictures and posters, I recommend this book. This book points you in the right direction in your journey for self-improvement. Simple and straight shooting instead of some books, just as informative, but may have overwhelming story telling. It sets up a great foundation for a better mindset and attitude. For the well-versed in the self-help arena, the Little Gold Book of YES! Attitude, solidifies, simplies and certifies the major principles of a positive attitude. Overall, after reading the book, you'll see how to improve a positive attitude with a YES! attitude.
Excellent Read March 30, 2008 I purchased this book after buing Mr. Gitomer's Little Platinum Book of Cha-Ching, which has made a difference in my life.
This book, as has been indicated before, is nothing particuarly new (but, as has also been indicated before, little self-improvement or achievement literature is truly new, just restated). I would argue that it is not simplistic, but instead subtle - I have reread it two times after my initial read, and only in the repeated readings are some of the subtlties coming out. Certainly if you are looking for a great introductory book to achievement and self improvement, you'd be hard pressed to beat this one. It's positive, upbeat, and has great packaging.
Jeffrey Shines Bright March 20, 2008 Jeffrey has a way with words and a way with attitude. I find this book refreshing, exciting, invigorating, empowering and motivating. Jeffrey's words of wisdom are right on, and places the responsibility squarely where it belongs: On each of us as individuals. I appreciate the contribution he is to each of us who read his work.
A Helpful Stepwise Manual Full of Sound Bites Amplifies Positive Thinking to the Next Level February 27, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
In 1952, Norman Vincent Peale set the ground rules for self-improvement with his classic book, The Power of Positive Thinking, and motivational speaker and sales strategy guru Jeffrey Gitomer takes his cues from that seminal tome (he respectfully refers to it as a must-read on page 58). The little gold book is indeed true to its description, as its eye-catching cover and portable size visually reflects Gitomer's self-empowering attitude. Once you open the book, you notice a lot of large, emphatic headlines and font sizes that you're more likely to see in a children's book. There are even humorous cartoons by Randy Glasbergen scattered throughout to emphasize the heightened sensory experience that the author is evoking. The philosophy behind the book will be familiar to anyone who has read Rhonda Byrne's The Secret or Michael Losier's Law of Attraction: The Science of Attracting More of What You Want and Less of What You Don't, but Gitomer's treatment, the ethos behind what he dubs a "YES! Attitude", is intentionally more cursory in treatment in order to provide the sound bites that are more likely to stay with the reader.
The 200-page book consists of what he defines as the "5.5" elements in shaping a "YES! Attitude". The author explains how it is more complex than the simple projection of positive thinking but more accurately, a constant daily lifestyle choice. Designed to assess where you are in your attitude, Gitomer's first element is "Insight to Your Inside Attitude", in which he provides tests and scorecards to rate the reader's attitude. The second element is called "Attitude Self Awareness". This is where he provides a reading list of four books, including Peale's book, and recommends reading from one of them for at least fifteen minutes a day. Included in this chapter are "20.5" attitude gems, such as "self-talk equals self-performance" and "failure is an event, not a person". The most valuable is #20.5 - "resign your position as general manager of the universe". He also provides "3.5" attitude awareness elements that are designed to lead the reader to action.
The third element, "Attitude Actions" identifies the "15.5" ways of making a change in attitude, such as realizing people have a choice, attending seminars on attitude, celebrating defeats as well as victories, and reading about how others initiate and embrace positive experiences. "Attitude Attributes" is the fourth element and reinforces the points made in the previous sections with a discussion of life philosophies and personal development. The mush sought-after "A-Ha!" moment is the subject of the fifth element, "Attitude Achievement", the turning point where one's positive attitude goes unencumbered. Gitomer ends the book with the ".5" element, "Attitude Fulfillment", which explains the difference between success and fulfillment and summarizes all his points. Gitomer has produced an energetic book full of good thoughts. While I did not find his observations incredibly revelatory, they provide good reminders not to veer off course by circumstances over which none of us have control. The author effectively shows how we can control our attitude and respond productively to adversity, whether it occurs in our professional or personal lives.
