3 out of 5 stars Stay with the book...   March 25, 2008

Read the book and thought I would take more from it by listening to it. Stopping to write something down - as suggested on the dvd - is not "do-able" while driving of course. The book is good - I haven't tried the workbook, but many say it is nice to have if you don't want to make your own binder to do the exercises in. This is not the "End All" of diet books, but does have some very usable, everyday suggestions.

The author only talks in the introduction, not the entire book, which oddly enough I liked the author's voice much more as compared the the person who was hired to read it. The author just sounds more personable and real.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Cognitive Therapy   March 18, 2008

As a therapist I know this changing your thinking type book/CD can help me as well as others. Attended a workshop that Dr. Beck present. Excellent!

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous, Fabulous, Fabulous!   January 18, 2008

This is worth the money! I love the fact that it addresses the psychological issues surrounding overeating, and doesn't give prescriptive advice about what to eat. I already know what I should eat, but talking back to my self-talk that says "oh, go ahead and eat it and start tomorrow" is another story.

You won't be sorry you bought this. I highly recommend the workbook AND CD.

5 out of 5 stars Good advice, and a good, solid plan.   November 4, 2007

This is the best, most honest advice you'll ever get to help you lose weight. There is no food plan here. She tells you to pick a nutritionally sound diet, as well as a back-up diet, and stick to it. She will help you change your thinking to think more like a thin person with some writing and "thinking" exercises. It's cognitive therapy, and you will learn why you should tolerate some hunger and cravings because craving something usually isn't an emergency, and your next meal is only a short time from now.

5 out of 5 stars Sabatoging thoughts? Who would have thunk it?   September 8, 2007

I give this book 5 stars because I too have lost about 20lbs since I learned that the culprit of my weight loss failures were my own "sabatoging thoughts". The thoughts that say to you, "This bed feels too good to get out of, I'll just work out tomorrow". Or the thought that says, it's only a small donut, I'll get back on my diet tomorrow". Dr. Beck actually tells you what to say to yourself when sabotaging thoughts threaten your best efforts. I am finally on the right track now thanks to this book. She has helped me to nip my problem in the bud. Thanks Dr. Beck!
