5 out of 5 stars Excellent calculus text   May 5, 2008

It is rare to combine calculus and linear algebra at this level. I know of only 4 other textbooks that attempt it. Normally, you see a marriage of calculus and linear algebra in the so called advanced calculus texts.

The authors do a remarkable job with this text. It ties up a lot of loose ends and questions. You will find not only the how, but also the why in this book.

A second volume is mentioned in the preface that integrates the linear algebra much further. I'm not sure if that volume was ever published. I can't seem to find any references to it on the Internet. Hopefully it was published. It would make a valuable addition to the present volume.

1 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE AMAZON EXPERIENCE: I don't think I'll use it again   October 6, 2007

I got it after 2 weeks of waiting, and then it turns out they shipped me the wrong order. I then waited for another week (I tried to cancel the order and cut my losses so I could just go and buy it at the campus bookstore, where it was the same price by the way, but it wouldn't let me because it claimed that it was "preparing for shipping" and then "it had been shipped"), ended up calling amazon customer services, found out the correct copy hadn't even been shipped to me. The operator was very helpful and had it expedited to me, but it was the worst experience I've ever had, and I already am not a huge fan of online shopping.
