Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent addition to a naturalist's set of tools   May 25, 2000

Voss's three-volume set of Michigan Flora is perhaps not the easiest thing to lug around a field site, but it is invaluable for its detailed information about each species. If you can identify a plant's family, the family keys are good and the book gives maps showing the distribution of each species in Michigan. Descriptions of the plants' preferred habitat help you narrow the possibilities when working on an identification. If you live in Michigan, these books are perfect, but if you live in neighboring areas--Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Ontario, and probably elsewhere, you will find considerable overlap with your local flora. The only disadvantage is having to shuffle among the three volumes (get all three), but they are all priced so reasonably, and they are so thorough, it is worth it.
