Great new series! July 24, 2008 After reading the BDB by JR Ward, I went on a "paranormal kick" and have been devouring many paranormal romance series......Singh's Psy/Changeling's, Cole's IAD, and Showalter's Demons. I am pleased to say that this series by Jacquelyn Frank is shaping up to be my favorite of them all.
The thing I appreciate about this series is the "strength" of the leading lady. Bella is tough. She goes toe to toe with all these demons without batting an eye. The reason for this you'll learn as you read the book. I loved watching Jacob the Enforcer struggle with his desire for this "human" woman. The dialogue is fresh, witty, and smart. I love the interactions between the demons and the future books that are being set up. I stayed up late finishing this one....another bit of proof to the quality of this book...(my sleep is precious!)
I recommend this book and can't wait for Gideon (the healer's) book.
Excellent Read July 19, 2008 I am an extremely picky reader and have found that it is possible for me to set down even the best of books and never pick them up again, but I absolutely could not put this book down. The story was great. The characters had depth. Everything was perfect, and I highly recommend his novel and can't wait to get to the next book in the series!!!
Great story! July 14, 2008 I loved this book. I picked it up expecting it to be another cheesy romance novel but it was much more than that. I stayed up all night reading it. This once stands out from the rest of the vampire/paranormal books I've been reading all summer. Try this one out!
Good new series... July 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The first third of this book was captivating! What a great new twist to paranormal romance. The action packed ending was also engrossing and I'm looking forward to the other books in this series.
The reason I gave this book only four stars though, is because this book really fizzled out in the middle. I lost interest in the main characters and started to skim some of the scenes. The action in the last 50-75 pages woke me up and redeemed this book somewhat for me.
JACOB - A GREAT DEBUT - FANTASTIC NOVEL - GREAT PARANORMAL ROMANCE!! June 22, 2008 Jacob
For all paranormal fans I am just going to say that you are going to be amazed by this unbelievable and most fantastic by new comer Jacqueline Frank. You are going to be blown away by this marvelous and refreshingly different new series. Written with amazing dialogue, edge of your seat pace, awesome plot and a simmering hot sensuality, this is a gorgeous and very soulful paranormal novel.
Jacqueline Frank has created the perfect platform that catapults this captivating race of demons - the Nightwalkers into instant stardom!!
All Nightwalkers are immortal demons - and they are forsworn not to intermingle with humans. Each demon has unique characteristics they embrace - Jacob is an earth demon and has control of all to do with Mother Earth. Above all Jacob is the Enforcer of his people and for centuries - he has enforced the Law; that no demon during the Solstice, Beltane or Hallows Eve - succumbs to the turning and in turn harm any human.
While he is hunting a transformed demon in NYC, he meets Isabella. Unbeknown to both Isabella and Jacob, "Bella" has an inherent ability to track transformed demons and kill them. When she saves Jacob and herself - Jacob feels he has to take Bella to their world and present the situation to the Demon King, Saul and the counsel.
Frank has done a spectacular job at rendering the setting for this dramatic and heartfelt debut - creating a new and an original race of immortals. The novel drew me in from the start with a such a beguiling sense that I couldn't think of anything else but finish the story!! Who would have thought that taking a demon race - and transforming it into such a believable concept has you believing that demons are almost people and not the evil characters always portrayed in the past??
You will fall in love with both characters. Bella utterly captivates the audience (and the Nightwalkers, I may say) with her spunky, sweet and charming personality. Her acceptance of the demon race, coupled with her intelligence, loyalty and funny quips makes her an anomaly in the normally staid and somber demon world.
Jacob - who has been immune to any human is intensely drawn to Bella - is almost consumed with his need for her. His care and devotion to her is touching and beautiful, his tortured soul at the knowledge that he is forsworn - above all as Enforcer - not to fall to the guile and desire he feels for Bella.
As the story unfolds the connection that both Bella and Jacob share is quite unique and one that I am sure you will enjoy discovering and will hurl this Nightwalker series into your automatic buy!
Additionally, Franks adds a fresh new twist to the mated beings, soul mate concept previously used so much in all paranormal novels.
With a fabulous introduction to the surprisingly real secondary characters introduced here, Frank gives enough of an enticing glimpse to make you pant in anticipation to each of their stories!!
I am just upset with myself that I didn't read it sooner - ENJOY!!
