Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Wed and bed one of his biggest client's unsavory daughters? No thanks. But the only way millionaire Travis King could get the man off his back was to marry someone else. So he handpicked his temporary and on-his-terms bride— hometown girl Julie O'Hara. The woman was desperate and should easily fade into the background. And, as per their contract, she'd do exactly what he wanted during their year of platonic marriage. Unless what he wanted began to change.…

1 out of 5 stars Hard to Enjoy This One   June 1, 2008

The beginning of this book was great. Travis and Julie get married with the agreement that they'll get an annulment. I love marriage of convenience stories, and I was excited about this one up until they went to Mexico. That's when the whole story fell flat. One minute Travis is upset with her because he thinks she knew she was still married to her ex-husband, and the next, he's having sex with her. I can understand that emotions and sexual desire can run high...but so soon? There wasn't the building up to the sex that I prefer. They just did it.

Then, to complicate matters, Julie is determined that she will go through with a divorce once the contract is up, though she's pregnant. I'm sorry but I have a hard time understanding why a woman would have sex with a man if she is determined to get out of the relationship or thinks that he will get out of the relationship. Maybe I'm old fashioned but commitment, to me, goes a long way.

I wished these characters would have taken the time to really get to know each other romantically (such as doing fun things together as a couple and sharing some kisses) before they jumped in the sack. I love romantic and sexual tension but this had little of it. That's why I'm giving this one star.

Here are some books where marriage came before love, and these are much more romantic and contain better sexual tension:

Gold's Bride

Prairie Bride (Harlequin Historical, No. 526)

4 out of 5 stars Good premise   May 6, 2008

This is the second in a series by Maureen Child about the King brothers in N CA. This one is weaker than the first book. I think it is because you have to stretch your imagination more to accept the premise.

The characters are well developed with a warped visions of money and life. The heroine and hero have known each other for a lifetime but they learn they don't really know each other. Time passes and they adjust to the bargain. Not so surprising twists with these characters do not seem to be cliched in character. The reader knows all long love conquerors everything but characters have to learn it.
