Rancher needed to be a bit more humble June 30, 2008 Here's the premise: virginal attractive former school teacher is down on her luck, totally hot rancher needs a housekeeper. Schoolteacher applies for and gets job but is warned by rancher that he is not the marrying kind in the interview. Add a few ranch hands, some characters from the past and you have the essence of this novel.
Rancher Win Garrison is arrogant and it made it really hard to like him. He spent almost the whole novel trying to persuade housekeeper Carlene into bed with no commitment. I especially disliked the way he could not define what kind of relationship he wanted, not a one night stand but not marriage either. He kept saying there was something in the middle but I never knew where he was going with this proposition and neither did he.
Carlene is likeable and sassy to boot. She constantly has to put him in his place and not just about their romantic relationship but also about her duties as a housekeeper. Win promises his sister he will look after her kids as she has her minor breakdown, (his sister just has to get away because she needs to be appreciated). Instead of watching them he is thrusts that duty upon Carlene, even when she refuses he talks right over her.
Carlene's commitment to marriage is understandable and even laudable. Win's attitude is also understandable; his first wife left him. However, he makes the mistake way too often of thinking that Carlene is like his first wife. His disregard for Carlene's feelings got old fast.
The ending is nice and I like the transformation of Win but it was a little too late for me.
A delight April 9, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Lucy Monroe pens a sensual tale in Housekeeper to the Millionaire.
Carlene Daniels relocated to Sunshine Springs to heal her broken heart after her love wasn't returned. She hopes to return to teaching but right now will take almost any job offered. That is how she ended up at millionaires Win Garrison's ranch house. Carlene figures the job of housekeeper should be a breeze, that was until she met Win.
Win Garrison just wants someone to make his house run easier so he can concentrate on running the ranch. Carlene Daniels fits the bill skill wise but she it tempting him in ways he hadn't planned on dealing with. After working with Carlene for a bit Win lays down the ground rules. He is attracted to her but is in no way interested in marriage but is willing to pursue her. That rule is troubling for Carlene if she gets back into teaching, she can't be the live in lover to her boss.
Win and Carlene fight the attraction until it takes over their every thought. But they both are dealing with past hurts and this is coloring their thinking.
Lucy Monroe delivers another emotion packed and sensual story. I can always count on being swept away into a world that is love filled and moving. These characters grow and change over the course of the book, making you love them more with each turn of the page.

I rearly give a harliquin presents 5 stars its always 4 and under but this book gets 5 from me i really really like the story and both characters were enjoyable to read. I think you will like this story. The only thing is Win's sister i don"t want to give anything away but the reason she gave for what she did was not good enough for goodness sake the kids are only 4 and 2 why would you feel that way, but if she hadn,t done what she did maybe Win wouldn't have realise sooner than later what he wanted a family and Carlene. BUT anyway you would like this story. KEEPER great for a collection won't be forgettable.
