Product Description
Every transaction starts with questions. Those selling a practice usually ask 3-5 questions. While these questions present concerns the seller may have, there are many important issues they are missing entirely. This book addresses 45 questions that are specific to our industry - we guarantee that the reader will find answers to questions they did not think to ask.

Good decisions demand quality questions and this book ensured that you are asking the right questions and at the proper time. Whether you just finished your last tax season or you are making plans to sell in 5 years, this book covers the material you will need to prepare for this most important decision.

5 out of 5 stars Easy Read - Useful Information!   May 27, 2008
It was an "easy" read and contained useful information. The book addressed both the seller and buyer side and was useful in being able to see the other parties' point of view. It contained many useful ideas as well as likely market expectations both the buyer and seller can expect. Those who understand the market expectations and the other parties' point of view are most likely to conclude a successful transaction. Would recommend the book to both buyers and sellers as a must read.

4 out of 5 stars Very Good Guide.   May 14, 2008

I thought the book was very informative and a very good guide for anyone buying or selling a tax practice.

I do have one issue that I don't think was totally addressed and that is the 1999 Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. The privacy issue is a national issue and not just a California Business Practices issue which was the only law addressed in the book. As an Enrolled Agent, I have to report to the Director of Practice and they seem to be after us now to charge us with penalties and take away our right to practice with little provocation. I am not sure an Attorney can answer this question, I believe you will have to go to the Director of Practice to ask what is allowed and how a practice can be sold.

Otherwise, the book is very helpful and it is about time someone writes it!

5 out of 5 stars Really Informative!   May 13, 2008

I finished reading the book this morning. It is really informative and it confirmed a lot of my thinking. It also corrected some misconceptions, particularly about a seller's role after the turnover. I am very relieved to find that the transition period should be much briefer than I had believed.

5 out of 5 stars A Must-Have Book!   May 1, 2008

As the owner and general managing partner of a regional CPA firm, I personally acquired 21 tax and accounting practices and sold three others since 1987. I wish that I would have had the benefit of Roy's book during that time. What took me twenty years (and plenty of mistakes) to learn, Roy covers in a concise way that takes less than an evening to read. His Question-and-Answer format makes it easy to get right to the heart of the buy/sell process. This book is a must-have for every tax professional's library!

5 out of 5 stars Well Organized   April 28, 2008

The book is very well organized in a Q and A format. The selection of questions shows a thorough understanding of the process of selling an accounting practice. Well written, helpful and accurate. Great assistance to either a buyer or a seller of an accounting practice. Well written, helpful and accurate. Great assistance to either a buyer or a seller of an accounting practice.
