Every writer has great dreams and aspirations of selling many copies of their published book. Stephanie Chandler gives you the real story about publishers. They can make beautiful well-crafted books but selling those books? That's a key responsibility for the author. THE AUTHOR'S GUIDE TO BUILDING AN ONLINE PLATFORM gives writers the critical tools to sell their books into the marketplace.

As Chandler writes at the bottom of the first page of Chapter 1: "The reality in the world of publishing is that without marketing, a book simply cannot be successful. And even if you have the biggest publishers on the planet behind you, it is unlikely that they will run your entire marketing campaign for you. You will still be required to do the majority of the work."

Publishers use the word "platform" a great deal and Chandler explains, "The formation of a platform is essential for publishing nonfiction and helpful for writers of fiction. A platform encompasses your ability to reach a broad audience before the book is even released.". . ."Authors of fiction and gift books aren't always required to have a platform first. But if you come to the table with one, your chances of getting published will be dramatically increased. Agents and publishers want authors who can sell books. Once you realize this and figure out how to demonstrate that you can do that, your future in publishing will be bright." (page 6)

In a no nonsense style, Chandler gives you the details to stand apart from the run of the mill book submission or published book author--because you will be motivated and informed to sell more books.

I respect Stephanie Chandler for the work she does. She is an expert in her field and definitely knows what she's talking about. I've purchased all her books on amazon and have been impressed with each one. Although, I think I've finally learned all I can from her after reading her latest. I did feel I was reading information that I had read before. There wasn't much new for me in this book, and it was just too basic. I also thought the title was a little misleading. I looked forward to reading some new marketing tips, but half the book was about building a Web site from the ground up. The information in this book is solid, on target, and useful, but if you've read Chandler's other books, you could probably skip this one.

Two things upset me about this book. One, it is not 200 pages as listed on amazon. This book is short. Mine is 143 pages and that includes the index, etc.

Second, there is an interview with an author on page 18. A comment from this author really upset me. She said, "I would never consider self-publishing. ..." She goes on to explain why. I found her comment snobbish and inaccurate. Is this author living in the real world? Big name authors are self publishing every day and some of the most successful books in history were originally self-pubbed. If I would've considered purchasing one of her books, I definitely will not now. She basically put down all indie artists with her comment. And Stephanie Chandler also self publishes some of her workbooks that are available on her Web site, even though she is also traditionally published (which seems to be the case with a lot of authors who don't have their noses turned up). Just check out the other authors interviewed in this book--they all are both self-pubbed and traditionally pubbed, but this particular author seems to have an issue with that. I am shocked that Ms. Chandler would include this author's interview in her book. My impression is that this author is afraid of the competition. Well, after seeing this author's Web site and reading some reviews about her books on amazon, I can see I'm not the only one who has this opinion. It's a shame this author's comment tarnishes a good book like Ms. Chandler's. At least it did for me.

Minus this particular author's obnoxious interview (the self-pub comment isn't the only thing she says to turn off readers), and if the book was really 200 pages, then I would have given it 5 stars.

Many a novice author often fails to realize that when their book is published the responsibility for publicizing, promoting, marketing, and selling that book is mostly (if not entirely!) going to be on their shoulders. Simply stated, "The Author's Guide To Building An Online Platform" is an ideal instruction manual that will materially assist any writer seeking to build a long-term career for themselves as published authors.

I just received this book last week since I was a contributor. I started reading it yesterday and have been taking many notes. Everyone who wants to make more sales as an author, no matter how experienced you are, will learn something from this book. I ended up taking a whole page of notes of new tips and ideas and websites to check out.

As an author struggling to establish a presence on the web for my own books Virtually Maria (Virtual Trilogy) and A Matter of TimeI found Stephanie Chandler's book by far and away the most useful to date.

Why is this? Simply because it is full of very practical steps - from website strategies, to building your website and (very importantly) establishing your "expert status" as a "platform" from which to sell your books.

Stephanie Chandler's philosophy is simple - publishers will be far more interested in publishing your book (or your own sales will increase if you are a Print of Demand self publisher) if you are already a known expert in the field of your books, or you have an established presence on the web in the form of a high-traffic site.

This book tells you have to achieve these things in very practical step-by-step terms.

Congratulations to Stephanie Chandler and many thanks, not just from me but from all the POD book producers out there, who were looking for the secret key to promoting their books on line. That lock has just been opened!
