Noah Calhoun left the bosom of his adopted family because he felt he was responsible for his adoptive father's accident and near death. Striving to be the person his parents raised him to be, Noah wants to make his mark on the world. Coming into a town for a drink, Noah stops a fight and winds up agreeing to be the sheriff. On his first day, he runs into the town's homeless waif, Rosalyn Benedict, and underneath the dirt of her face, Noah just knows there is someone special. All he has to do now is get close enough to convince her.
Rosalyn Benedict has been taking care of herself for a long time. The witness to her mother's hanging years ago, she has been homeless and in charge of herself for a very long time. That said, Rosalyn doesn't take kindly to being told what to do and doesn't like the new sheriff, at all. Or does she? Finding herself hating him at one point and loving him in the next, Rosalyn doesn't want to give up her independence. When Noah is hurt by unknown enemies, she finds herself caring for him more than she should.
I am so sad to see this series end. Completely heartbroken that no longer will I have a Malloy Family book on Beth Williamson's coming soon pages. However, if she is going to end this enchanting series, then The Legacy is a proper last book. Adopted by Nicky in The Bounty, readers knew that Noah as going to be a special man, and he was. Noble, trustworthy and downright sensual, I loved him just as much as Rosalyn. Rosalyn was also a tough cookie. She reminded me a lot of Noah's mother, Nicky. She was stubborn, independent, but when she loved, she loved forever.
Bummed to see the series end, but proud to have read every book, I have to give big love to Beth Williamson for a truly wonderful end book. The Legacy was the perfect story for Noah. I am so glad he finally found the one place where he felt he belonged - Rosalyn's arms.

Despite being adopted into the Malloy family at the age of fifteen, Noah Calhoun has never truly felt like he belongs. An accident that almost kills his father, Tyler, convinces Noah that ranching isn't for him and he sets out on his own. Noah wanders about for three years before he ends up in Chancetown, Wyoming. He's at the end of his money and desperately needs a job when he gets the job offer of his dreams - to be the town sheriff. Only this is a town full of secrets and one young woman who's spent years living on the streets with nothing more than a cat for company.
Rosalyn Benedict `Rosie' isn't happy that the new sheriff seems to have taken a special interest in her. She knows how to take care of herself and isn't about to allow Noah with all his high-handed do-gooder attitude to `help' her. Rosalyn is one tough customer. She's had to be in order to survive living on the street with the `good' citizens looking down their noses at her. Noah isn't about to give up on helping her and she isn't going to accept it gracefully but she does have to admit that he is too darn good looking for her peace of mind.
Noah takes his new job as sheriff very seriously. As such it's part of his job to ensure the well-being of every member of the community - that includes smart-mouth, streetwise ragamuffins like Rosalyn. He's sure there's a story behind why she's living on the streets rather than with her parents or a husband but nobody seems to be inclined to share the details with him. He's drawn to her, maybe because he was in her position before the Malloy's took him in and is able to empathize with Rosalyn.
While Noah is doing everything in his power to find a way to help Rosalyn in a way that she'd be willing to accept, he's discovering that there appears to be some sort of corruption in town that's directly related to the ongoing battle between a local cattle and sheep rancher and the mayor is directly involved. What exactly is going on? Why has Rosalyn spent more than ten years of her life living on the street? And what is he going to do about the growing need he feels for the young skittish woman he wants so desperately to help? Noah and Rosalyn are attracted to each other but Rosalyn doesn't trust easily. Will she find a love worth reaching out for in Noah?
THE LEGACY is the seventh and final story in Beth Williamson's Malloy family series. I'm so sad to see this series end - it was this series that turned me onto Ms. Williamson's writing and I've never once been disappointed in any of her books. I've adored the entire Malloy family and while each story depicts a main couple, I always knew that the rest of the family would aid each other in whatever capacity needed. In THE LEGACY, Noah's felt out of place with the Malloys and stepped out on his own trying to find his way in life. He finds a home, a woman worth loving, and some major corruption in his new town. I could have easily cried for Rosalyn when her story is revealed. She's a remarkable young woman with a quiet fortitude that draws readers to her and gives you a sense of pride. I especially loved some of the scenes once the rest of the Malloy's start putting in their appearances in the storyline. You really just can't help but adore the bold and brash personalities they all seem to possess. Yes folks, Beth Williamson's THE MALLOY FAMILY series is over . . . but don't despair, she has more red hot cowboys lined up and coming our way with a brand new series called DEVIL ON HORSEBACK - stop by her website to find out more.

I have read all the books in the series, and enjoyed all of them. I think this was my favorite. It's one of those you can't put down. Please let the series continue, there are so many more branches on the family tree to explore!
