once again, astounding July 26, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Once again, Trudeau has written a book that's as close to the Great American Novel as he's yet (and, to my mind, anyone's yet) come. With each successive book Trudeau seems to raise the bar. I read Trudeau primarily for the magnificence of his prose style, his riveting plots and masterful plot structures, and especially for his characters who haunt you long after the stories end--in this case, long after he's offered his "debt cures." I'm thinking Trudeau's literary sensibility is closest to D.H. Lawrence. In this book--destined, I'm convinced, to become a classic, alongside Hemingway's For Whom The Bell Tolls and Dreiser's An American Tragedy--he tackles a delicate, controversial subject, "debt," with the kind of moral courage with which Lawrence confonted "sexuality." Yet Trudeau somehow manages to transcend the challenge of "debt" to probe, ultimately, the "human soul"--to examine, that is, not only what it means to be "in debt," but what it means to "be human." Weeks later, I find myself thinking about this book and growing very emotional. I tell my wife, of course, that I'm thinking about "Darfur," or "earthquake victims," but really I'm thinking about Trudeau, and his latest literary gift. Finally, I'll be surpised, disappointed, and frankly outraged, if this book isn't selected by The New York Times as one of the 10 Best Books of 2008.
I don't know why this book is so popular!!!!!!! July 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First off- I want to say that I don't really care about what Trudeau has done in the past- what prison sentences he's served, what FTC fines he's incurred, etc. I was willing to give the book a fair shot. But contrary to the infamous infomercial, the cures aren't what they're cracked up to be. This is all pretty basic stuff- and the book isn't written particularly well either. A consumer is much better off with clever and actually novel approaches to personal finance like How to Take Advantage of the People Who Are Trying to Take Advantage of You or sound advice about hard work to become a millionaire as in The Millionaire Next Door.
One thing that ticked me off right off the bat was Trudeau's conspiracy theory about the credit cards, the banks, and the government (the "they" in his title) in collusion to keep you in debt. People!- there is no creepy little man behind the screen pushing buttons and trying to control our lives. There are a lot of people trying to take our money- but we do have a say in that- we can spend our money or save/invest in any way we want. If you need help in that regard- feel free to write me :D
Chance... A Necessary Part of Life July 15, 2008 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
I purchased this book so that I could personally publish an objective review concerning it, myself. Considering that my career is that of a critic, I know that people demand facts concerning products that they purchase. No one wants to waste their money on Junk, or come out of a purchase and feel that they have been lied to. I am giving this man the benefit of the doubt, simply b/c that is what objectivity requires. I also, am not alarmed by the fact that he has been accused of fraud, or been to court over his writings.
I MEAN, LET'S FACE IT, NO ONE IN HISTORY WHO HAS EVER TRIED TO HELP OTHERS, HAS CARVED AN EASY PATH IN DOING SO.
Of course everyone is after him...that is to be expected. After all, no one who is screwing us over...especially banks or government...want anyone of us to challenge them...or to know how to better ourselves! They would lose billions, if people caught onto their game.
Knowledge, after all, is power! Do you honestly think billion dollar companies, or the government would want us to take back control of our lives? I think we all know the answer to that!
Wears A Suit Well July 13, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I can see this Treudeau guy around a pool at some pseudo Hollywood estate with his entrepreneurial friends laughing all the way to the bank over the Barnum suckered massess of as90%^. He reminds me of that little jerk who hawks bowel cleansing products-the one who looks like a snake with the goatee. Anyone seen that weasel i'm talking about?? Billy Mays is probably strutting there too pushing some new orange pool cleaner stuff blabbing to the crowd who go "waah!!!" including the airhead ex-playmate with tremendous cleavage though at least May's big mouth doesn't usually rip off as bad with his products that semi deliver versus guys like Treudeau. Yes, these wonders give 'made in America' a whole new meaning- ha ha ha ha ha ha, ah sh&*!!!
A Worthy Investment July 9, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I hope Mr. Trudeau reads these reviews because it might make him reconsider his approach to business and marketing. I would NEVER buy a product through one of his infomercials for the reasons already listed by previous reviewers. That being said, I do suggest that anyone interested in the credit industry, credit management, or methods for overcoming bad credit buy this book through Amazon because it's a worthy investment. While this book may not represent the final word on credit, there are many valuable ideas and suggestions that help a reader better understand and better manage their own credit. I've used many of the principles mentioned in this book and yes, they do work.
