Product Description “Linda Howard is a superbly original storyteller.” –Iris Johansen
Blair Mallory has already survived one murder attempt. Now, while planning her wedding and dealing with holiday-season madness, Blair once again dodges a bullet. Or more precisely, a Buick. And though the driver’s identity remains a mystery, his or her murderous intentions are all too clear.
Or are they? After all, Blair’s homicidal ex-husband and his partner in crime/wife are safely behind bars. And even Wyatt Bloodsworth, her police detective groom-to-be, isn’t inclined to believe she’s being targeted again. All of which makes Blair wonder if her close call was simply a mishap. But the wondering stops when she narrowly cheats death again in another seemingly innocent accident. Two strikes is all it takes to convince Blair that she’s back in someone’s crosshairs. And the only thing more frightening is that Wyatt still doubts her. That means this time, no one will be watching Blair’s back when she sets out to get the drop on her would-be killer–before whoever it is finally drops her.

A Hideous Read! June 9, 2008 I'd never read "To Die For" so I didn't know this was a sequel, but it really doesn't matter because I'll never read another book with Blair Mallory in it. I thought Blair was ridiculous to the point of being painfully stupid! The book was in the first person and filled with a bunch of idiotic dialogue that wasted a lot of time. She was shallow, childish, petty and just plain mean as she played absurd mind games with Wyatt. Also, I never got a description of Blair. For a new reader, I needed this information to give me an idea of what she looked like, considering the title. I skimmed through the book to find out who the bad guy was. I was very disappointed with this book because I loved "Mr. Perfect". However, if this is the type of writing Howard's doing now, then I will never buy another one of her books.
Hmm... was this what I was expecting? May 15, 2008 Hmm... was this what I was expecting?
Short answer: Yes. Now here's the long answer.
Blair is as she is in the first book. I still find her `fluffy' and vain. She makes big deals out of things that aren't big deals, makes little out of something that should be a big deal. Knowing what she knew from before, I was really surprised by how Wyatt felt, denying that she was being targetted yet again, and the ensuing fight was a bad one. He said things that would have made me even more made than Blair was, but this whole `compartmentalizing' thing she does annoys me to know end. And so does her `list of transgressions'. I'm sorry, but if I did that to my husband, our marriage would have been over long ago. Who likes having their faults or the things they did wrong thrown into their face daily/weekly? Give me a break!
I'm also wondering who writes the synopsis' for both Blair Mallory books. This one makes note of a 'seemingly innocent accident. Sorry, but what happened wasn't deemed an accident right from the get-go. Yet the synopsis leads to you believe something else.
I also found this predictable. If you've read the first novel, you may agree with me. They seem to keep asking Blair who she angered or made an enemy of - same as the first book. However, she kept throwing it back at Wyatt, wondering if it had to do with him. It happened so many times in the first book that this one became predictable. And again, the entire plot and climax was summed up in Chapter Twenty-Nine. The book ended with Chapter Thirty, the wedding. Why, again, was the ending summed up in one chapter? Is there something wrong with spacing it out? I mean, the book is entertaining; some great laughs, good groans and head-shakes, but summing up the ending in one chapter, for me, screws up the entire book. It feels like being sucker-punched. I really wish authors wouldn't do that. And some things are repeated enough that it gives you that `okay, can we get past that already?' feeling.
The book is a great read. Some laughs, pretty good action scenes, and although you don't get erotic descriptions, you quickly get the point. However, the one chapter ending steals one star from my rating.
WHAT HAPPENED TO FRANETTE LIEBOW April 19, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Loved the book but please please do not change the reader. I drive a long way to work and love to listen to audiobooks but why these authors keep changing the reader I do not know. The first book was perfect and the reader was perfect as well. I have listened to the first book at least 6 times just love it. The second book I listened to once and liked it but not the same took it to the book store to trade it in. QUIT CHANGING THE READER!!!!!
My Opinion April 18, 2008 First let me tell you that I am a male writing this review of a romance novel. I am not shy in telling you that so there! It is my first book I have read by Linda Howard and I found it delightful. I actually am putting that wrong for I am listening to the audio version of the book. I will listen to more of her stories because I love this one so much. Riding in my car and hearing the trials and tribulations of Blair I laughed until I cried then kept on laughing.
I wish though that people that make reviews of books would not tell the whole story. The first two or three chapters is enough. Don't tell us the end.
Bottom line is if this is a good example of Linda Howards writing she is a wonderful read and well worth the effort.
Favorite book to reread over & over again! March 20, 2008 LOVE THIS BOOK - I have read & reread this book at least a dozen times! I bought it when it first came out but after recently reading the reviews for this book online I decided to voice my opinion too! I realize that first person writing can be a bit disconcerting but after awhile I got so caught up in the fun, hilarity and hot romance of this story that it has become an all time favorite for me. Blair is smart but definitely a diva and lets be honest we all can be a bit of diva from time to time - or we know someone just like her. The sequel to this book "To Die For" is also a fun romp of a read too! Linda Howard is my favorite author & all her books are keepers!!!
