Amazon.com All of Linda Howard's novels are wonderful but this exceptional time-travel is her first foray into paranormal romance--and it's not to be missed. Grace St. John, a scholar, unwittingly discovers the Knights of Templar's secret treasure. Suddenly, her life is upturned when she spies her boss murdering her husband and brother. With no reason to live, except to extract vengeance, Grace becomes a fugitive of the law as she attempts to find an explanation for this horrible act. Grace simultaneously translates 14th century medieval documents written by Black Niall. This embittered knight reaches into Grace's subconscious and the two begin to share dreams 700 years apart.
Product Description New York Times bestselling author Linda Howard captivates readers in the deeply romantic tale of a contemporary woman who unravels an extraordinary mystery from the past . . . by living it.A scholar specializing in ancient manuscripts, Grace St. John never imagined that a cache of old documents she discovered was the missing link to a lost Celtic treasure. But as soon as she deciphers the legend of the Knights of the Templar -- long fabled to hold the key to unlimited power -- Grace becomes the target of a ruthless killer bent on abusing the coveted force. Determined to stop him, Grace needs the help of a warrior bound by duty to uphold the Templar's secret for all eternity. But to find him -- and to save herself -- she must go back in time . . . to fourteenth-century Scotland . . . and to Black Niall, a fierce man of dark fury and raw, unbridled desire. . . .

Helplessly addicted July 14, 2008 I became somewhat addicted to Linda Howard after Cry No More and have read some of her other books - some great, some not so great. I kept seeing references to Son of the Morning by reveiwers and at first I wasn't sure about it. But here I am, just now reading it, 10 years after it was written! I'm so glad I did because I couldn't put it down. There are some holes in the plot but it was compelling enough that I could look beyond them. I enjoyed the characters so much and the writing was great. Plus, I'm a total Scotland fanatic so that added an extra element for me. Overall, this book is a classic and I hope it doesn't drop out of publication any time soon.
My first and best Howard April 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was more a historical romance fan so I guess that's the reason I was late to discover Linda Howard. Well Son of the Morning is the best introduction to this writer I can think of. Combining contemporary with historical romance this book is simply awesome. Just be sure to start early in the morning because it will be hard to go to sleep without having finished it. The story is about Grace, a scholar who stambles upon some old documents that relate to the Knights of the Templar. Unfortunately, soon after she finds these papers her father and husband are getting killed, she goes on the run because she's considered guilty for their deaths and she starts to see images of a large, handsome warrior named Niall. More than half the novel is spent with Grace in the present trying to find what the documents she found mean while her bond with Niall gets stronger and stronger. Despite their not being physically close for so long, Son of the Morning is one of the most soul touching, addictive and simply wonderful novels you'll ever read. The mystery plot adds to the tension and excitement, but it's a romance novel foremost. Absolutely brilliant, one of the best I've read and I've read A LOT!
Tops my "Read Again!" List April 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Of the thousands of books I've read in my life, this book is at the top of my romance "read again" list. This is the most fun, adventurous, sad, thrilling, entertaining, romantic and intriquing story that Linda Howard has ever written. Grace St. John is a woman you'll never forget... a female character with dimension and depth. You'll cry, you'll laugh, you'll worry, you'll rejoice. Your life will fade in the background as Grace takes center stage and her story becomes your reality. It's obvious that Niall is no slouch. He'd have to be pretty great to draw and keep a woman like Grace St. John! Enjoy!
Couldn't Put it Down March 17, 2008 I won't rehash the plot since others have done that quite well. This story reeled me in from the very beginning. Of all the Linda Howard that I've read, and I've read a lot, this was the novel in which I became most attached to the heroine. I loved that Linda really let us get to know Grace, experience her pain, feel her strength and witness the amazing changes that she went through. I cried more than once for her.
The physical romance comes much later in the story but I was not bothered by that AT ALL. The lead up to Grace and Black Nial's first encounter was quite enchanting!
Son of the Morning January 18, 2008 Son of the Morning is by far my favorite Linda Howard book, and that is saying something, because I love all her books!
