Stick it to the man, do it yourself!!! May 20, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've been biking for 12 years. This is the ultimate beginners guide to servicing and maintaining your bicycle(s). Step by step instruction plenty of easy to interpret pictures and ancient secrets you would have to have been a bike mechanic for ten years to know; all at your finger tips. However what's the point in knowing how without practice, so get a tool kit and stand. I Have No Idea May 18, 2008 I bought this book for my husband, who is really into bicycling. He loves it. The weekend the book arrived, he had both tires off his road bike and was cleaning everything... it was a big hit. He says its great.
Reference guide to determine which tool to buy for a given repair job February 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Over 223 pages, (the only glossy paper is the front cover and the back one), PARK has properly organized into different chapters, differnet repair work required on the generic bicycle.
The main purpose of this book, is its assistance in determining which tool is appropriate for any given job. In addition, it provides the possibility of of the reader buying it online, since the book provides the exact part # for that Park Tool, from various online bike webstores, through amazon, perhaps.
As a learning document, for various repairs, the material is relatively thin, as the various steps in doing any given repair are missing, just the initial and / or perhaps the final outcome of the repair work, for example.
A lot of time went into the thinking of the book, organizing it by theme, into chapters, taking photos, so the overall work took more effort than it appears from just flipping through the pages.
Overall, it's a great marketing device and sales reference for the cyclist at large to decide what tool he needs to buy, for any given repair. But, to learn how to actually do the repairs, other books are preferable than this one - although the tools to do those repairs, obviously, will need to be acquired in one way or another, regardless which book is read to do the repair work on your bike.
Very complete book February 15, 2008 A very complete and practical book. It teach you all the components and how to fix them an do maintenance to the bike. It has also good pictures that help to understand the mechanisms and procedures to maintain the bike by yourself
Not the best detailed book October 14, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The book gives some helpful info and direction to aid in the maintenance of your bike. It does include some photos but it seems to be lacking when it comes to detailed diagrams and often refers the reader to the Park Tool website for more info. Overall, it is a useful book but, if you are new to bicycle maintenance you will probably find yourself looking elsewhere for more detailed instruction.
